Mitchell College is conducting a local search for an Assistant Coach for Men's Basketball. This position reports to the Head Men’s Basketball Coach and will be assigned responsibilities within the basketball program as deemed necessary and appropriate by the Head Coach. Those responsibilities may include but not be limited to recruit evaluation, game scouting/film exchange, assist in practice and in-game management, retaining quality student-athletes, and academic support. The successful candidate must possess strong computer skills, effective communication and organizational skills, understanding of NCAA compliance and NAIA policies and guidelines.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Assist Head Coach in implementing a successful philosophy to promote the educational welfare and sportsmanship of the student-athlete.
Help insure that all players meet NCAA eligibility requirements and prepare eligibility forms to be sent to the NCAA and conference member schools.
Comply with all NCAA, NAIA, Mitchell College and Athletic Department rules, policies and regulations. Immediately inform Athletic Director of any violations of aforementioned rules, policies and regulations.
Assist in practice and in-game management, including but not limited to, player skill development
Assist in game scouting/film exchange utilizing the Synergy Scouting Software.
Assist with all travel arrangements for the team and report all travel issues to college administration.
Assist in recruiting efforts throughout the position, which involves working a flexible schedule including some nights and weekends.
Assist with annual community service program to provide team with the opportunity to give back to local youth and community.
Provide academic mentoring to each player and support department academic policies to ensure the academic success of student athletes.
Assist Head Coach and Sports Medicine staff in preparation of the student athletes and the monitoring of injuries.
Establish and maintain an ethical and moral code of behavior and living that is expected of all coaches.
Support the philosophy and mission of the College and promote positive image for athletic program and college.
Demonstrate a sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students, along with staff and students with physical and learning disabilities
Must be certified in CPR, First Aid and AED training – proof of certification must be presented to Athletic Director prior to Aug 15th each year.
Perform all other duties as assigned by Head Coach.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree
Coaching experience, preferably at the college level
Collegiate playing experience preferred
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, and staff.
