The Assistant Coach, under the direction of the head men’s basketball coach, serves as a member of the Athletics Department and will be responsible for assisting in successfully coaching and managing the men’s basketball program creating a positive and beneficial athletics experience for the student-athletes at Piedmont University.

The Assistant Coach, under the direction of the head men’s basketball coach, serves as a member of the Athletics Department and will be responsible for assisting in successfully coaching and managing the men’s basketball program creating a positive and beneficial athletics experience for the student-athletes at Piedmont University.
Coach practice sessions and workouts. Assist with coaching responsibilities during athletic events.
Scout for and recruit quality student-athletes and coordinate recruiting activities with the Head Coach and Director of Athletics.
Monitor academic and disciplinary standing of student-athletes. Provide academic support for student-athletes as needed.
Program operational tasks including but not limited to: scouting, video breakdown, individual workouts, strength & conditioning, alumni events, student worker supervision, coordinating community service projects, social media, fundraising, camps/clinics, team laundry, and weight room/gym monitoring
Ensure the welfare of the student-athlete in all activities
Abide by all NCAA and conference rules.
Complete the NCAA rules test annually.
Cooperate with other athletic department and institutional personnel.
Supervise athletic facilities for the purposes of safety and security.
Serve on college committees when designated
Attend convocations, graduations, etc.
Other relevant duties as assigned.
Regular and predictable attendance is required.
On-site work is required.
Incumbents must remain relevant in the area of employment and flexible to changes in work related to institutional needs.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's Degree required.
Experience coaching required, with experience in a higher education environment preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
Current or ability to obtain CPR and AED certifications.
Valid Georgia Driver's License or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire. Satisfactory MVR is required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of NCAA DIII rules and regulations.
Knowledge of the rules and strategies of basketball. This includes, but is not limited to, teaching techniques and coaching strategies necessary for both individual improvements and overall team success.
Good interpersonal skills are also needed for interacting with university departments, students and prospective student-athletes; requires excellent speaking and writing skills.
Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students from a variety of diverse backgrounds.
Ability to identify student-athletes who will succeed both academically and athletically.
Ability to use Microsoft Products: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Ability to travel regularly and work nonstandard hours and weekends.
Ability to collaboratively and effectively work in a diverse and inclusive environment.
Environmental, Physical and Visual Acuity Factors
Incumbents will be subject to inside environmental conditions which includes protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
Incumbents in this positions will be expected to climb (Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, ramps, and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms); balance (Maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching on narrow or slippery, surfaces); stoop or crouch (by bending body downward and forward while bending the body at the spine and/or waist); kneel (by bending at the knee to come to rest on one or two knees); reach, stand, walk (moving about on foot to accomplish tasks); pull, lift, use fingering and grasping, feeling, talk (to express or exchange ideas); hear (perceive the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels); and make repetitive motions. This position requires incumbents to perform medium work (exert up to 50lbs of force occasionally, up to 20lbs of force frequently, and up to 10lbs of force constantly to move objects.
Performance of the duties in this position will require incumbents to have close visual acuity to view a computer monitor, perform data analysis and review; and monitor student-athlete training and performance.
