Reporting to the Head Coach, Men’s Basketball, the Assistant Coach, Men’s Basketball will support the Men’s Basketball program by performing the following duties:
Assists Head Coach, Men’s Basketball in creating, promoting, and maintaining a culture of determination, commitment, and respect; including the development, implementation, and accountability of team standards.
Coaches student-athletes individually and in groups, and demonstrates game techniques; this may manage a designated skill development area or group of positions, as assigned by the Head Coach.
Develops, recommends, and teaches game strategy and position assignments; this position will provide on-court coaching during competition.
May manage on-campus recruitment by liaising with the Office of Athletics Compliance, Office of Admissions, and Office of Student Financial Assistance.
May manage or assist in managing on-campus recruitment of prospects and their families for all coaches.
Will not recruit off-campus unless designated by an exception regulated by the
NCAA
on minimal occurrences during the year.
Assists in promoting the academic, physical, mental, social, and personal development of the complete student-athletes, including consulting with the student-athlete, Academic Support Staff, Mental Health professionals, and other University administrators and support staff.
May manage or assist in budget management and team fundraising.
May manage or assist in managing scheduling, team travel logistics, or other administrative duties.
May be designated as the liaison with the marketing and social media personnel within the department.
May be designated as the liaison with the equipment manager.
Maintains knowledge and remains current regarding all appropriate
NCAA
, Atlantic 10 Conference, Department of Athletics and Recreation, and University compliance issues, policies, and procedures.
Works to develop a diverse and inclusive environment for the program and department.
Develops and maintains effective relationships and communications with students, colleagues, faculty, staff, alumni, parents, and the general public.
The position is based at GW’s Foggy Bottom Campus in Washington, DC but will require significant domestic travel for games and events. The incumbent may perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 1 year of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:
Outstanding communication, writing, and presentation skills.
Sports management experience preferred.
Working knowledge of videotape/editing equipment is desired.
Self-motivated, able to work independently, and be part of a team.
Experience with all social media platforms desired.
Experience editing photos and creating graphics for distribution is preferred.
Experience managing budgets is desired.
Experience coordinating team travel logistics desired.
Experience overseeing team managers, camp staff, and coaches is preferred.
Working knowledge of
NCAA
rules and regulations is preferred.
