REPORTS TO: Head Men’s Volleyball Coach and Director of Athletics
DEPARTMENT: Athletics
LOCATION: Bernice Hansen Athletics Center, Grand Rapids, MI
SUMMARY: The individual in this position will support the head coach in duties pertaining to the team and program. The candidate will serve the players of the Cornerstone University Men’s Volleyball program while acting in accordance with the mission of the university.
COMPENSATION: Full tuition benefits, not including fees and books, subject to financial aid guidelines. General stipend offered.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Carry out aspects of the men’s volleyball program necessary to accomplish the objectives of the sport within the university, the athletic department, the WHAC and NAIA rules and regulations
Model commitment to Christian character and the Community Covenant standards in behavior and interactions with athletes and coaches and officials
Help to support spiritual growth opportunities in partnership with head coach
Support academic growth and success of student athletes in program
Help head coach recruit and retain highly skilled Christian student-athletes for volleyball team
Scout high school matches and tournaments
Corresponds with recruits through e-mail, letters, texts, phone calls
Manage social media platforms for the team
Assist with some game day management responsibilities as assigned by the head coach
Orient and enforce student-athlete adherence to the policies and regulations of the university and athletic department
Provide guidance and assistance to student-athletes on a range of personal issues
Prepare parts of practice schedules in coordination with head coach
Lead, monitor, and coordinate training and practice sessions, ensuring that all safety guidelines and standards are maintained
Help plan and administer off-season training programs
Provide special training for individual team members as required
Perform other duties as assigned
18 hours/week maximum, up to 936 hours/year maximum
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree required
Acceptance into a Cornerstone University Master’s Degree program
Successful experience in coaching volleyball
Playing experience in a high school or collegiate program
Demonstrated professional organizational and communication skills
Ability to recruit Christian student-athletes with potential for academic and athletic success
A personal relationship with Jesus Christ and an active Christian commitment
Enthusiastic embrace of the Cornerstone University Identity, Mission and Vision statements
A theology that supports the values and mission of Cornerstone University evidenced by an ability to affirm and sign the university’s doctrinal statement, “The Cornerstone Confession”
