Definition of Classification:
Under the supervision of the Head Coach, the Assistant Women’s Lacrosse Coach plays a critical role in supporting the mission of the University of Redlands and the values of the Department of Physical Education and Athletics. This full-time position is responsible for assisting with all aspects of the Women’s Lacrosse program, including recruiting, coaching, operations, and administrative duties. The Assistant Coach must operate in full compliance with University policies, NCAA Division III regulations, and SCIAC guidelines.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Serve as the program’s recruiting coordinator, identifying, evaluating, and recruiting prospective student-athletes who are a strong fit for the University’s academic and athletic environment.
Maintain consistent and effective communication with prospective student-athletes, their families, and the Admissions Office.
Organize and conduct on-campus and off-campus visits and recruiting events.
Assist with all aspects of on-field coaching, including planning practices, game strategy, and skill development. Experience coaching goalkeeping and/or attacking positions is strongly preferred.
Manage and maintain the team’s social media platforms (e.g., Instagram, Twitter, Facebook), in alignment with departmental branding and communication standards.
Assist in opponent scouting and the creation of scouting reports to inform team preparation and strategy.
Coordinate and lead ID camps, clinics, and youth engagement events.
Teach assigned physical education activity courses during the academic year.
Accept and fulfill a collateral departmental assignment, such as game management, administrative support, or student-athlete development.
Contribute actively as a team member within the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, supporting department-wide initiatives and events.
Perform other duties or special projects as assigned by the Head Coach or Director of Athletics.
Qualification Guidelines
Any combination equivalent to, but not limited to, the following:
Experience/Training/Education:
Required:
Bachelor’s degree required.
Minimum of three (3) years of coaching experience, preferably at the intercollegiate level.
Demonstrated ability to recruit and retain student-athletes committed to both academic and athletic excellence.
Clear understanding of NCAA Division III philosophy and the role of athletics in a private, liberal arts setting.
Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
Proven ability to work effectively with a diverse community of students, staff, and faculty.
Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in recruiting, coaching, and program leadership.
Valid California Class C Driver’s License or ability to obtain one within ten (10) days of appointment. A current DMV driving record demonstrating a good driving history will be required post-offer.
Preferred:
Master’s degree in kinesiology, education, sports management, or related field.
Collegiate-level playing experience.
Experience with goalkeeper and/or offensive player development.
Familiarity with recruiting management platforms (e.g., Front Rush, ARMS).
Experience coordinating camps, clinics, and community outreach.
Prior experience teaching physical education activity courses in a collegiate setting.
Knowledge and Skills:
Knowledge of lacrosse fundamentals, strategies, and techniques across various playing positions.
Understanding of NCAA Division III rules and regulations related to compliance, eligibility, and recruitment.
Proficiency in social media marketing and content creation for athletics.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking and digital correspondence.
Ability to organize and prioritize multiple responsibilities, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines.
Demonstrated capacity to mentor and support the holistic development of student-athletes.
Commitment to continuous learning, innovation, and collaborative team dynamics.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
Working Conditions:
This position requires a flexible schedule and the ability to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and travel for games, recruiting, and university events. The Assistant Coach will be expected to travel frequently, including overnight and multi-day trips. The role involves working in both indoor office settings and outdoor athletic environments, with regular exposure to varying weather conditions such as heat, cold, wind, and rain. The position also requires regular use of computers, phones, and video equipment for communication, scouting, and administrative tasks. A valid driver’s license and the ability to operate a university vehicle are required for all travel related to team and recruiting responsibilities.
Physical Demands:
The Assistant Coach must be able to stand, walk, run, bend, kneel, stoop, reach, and lift for extended periods during practices, training sessions, and competitions. The position requires the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, including athletic equipment and supplies. Physical stamina and mobility are essential to actively participate in coaching and demonstrate techniques, as well as to support the setup and breakdown of athletic facilities and events.

HIRING RANGE: Anticipated hiring range is near or at the minimum of the classification, commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training. The University of Redlands is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range considers the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range for this position is defined as the Full Pay Range. The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is defined as the Hiring Range. Placement within the Hiring Range is determined by internal equity, and relevant qualifications.
BACKGROUND CHECK: Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. The University will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. DRIVER'S LICENSE CHECK: Possession of a valid Driver's License is required for certain positions. PHYSICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL EXAMS: For certain positions typically in Public Safety, Facilities, Athletics and Information Technology Services departments, employment is contingent upon a candidate passing a pre-employment physical exam with the ability to lift in excess of 50 lbs. Public Safety Officers, in addition to a pre-employment physical exam, will also be required to pass a psychological evaluation.
