A. POSITION PURPOSE
Reporting to the Director of Rowing the assistant coach is responsible for assisting in all aspects of running a Division I Men’s and Women’s Rowing program including, but not limited to: race preparation, teaching and coaching; practices and player conditioning; recruitment and retention of student-athletes; program administration; academic integrity; and donor/alumni public relations and youth programs. In addition, the assistant coach is responsible for abiding by all conference, IRA and NCAA regulations to ensure departmental compliance.
B. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Assist with creation and implementation of effective racing, practice and conditioning plans for the student athletes.
Work with Director of Rowing and Associate Head Coach to develop and create on and off water training programs.
Assist and/or monitor strength and conditioning programs as needed or directed by the Director of Rowing and/or Associate Head Coach.
2. Assist with recruitment of the highest caliber student-athlete within the admissions, financial and regulatory standards and policies established by the University, WCC, IRA and NCAA.
3. Assist with administrative responsibilities of the Men’s and Women’s Rowing programs in an efficient and responsible manner.
4. Assist in the monitoring and verification of program related expenditures and revenues.
Assist with travel arrangements, bookings, travel party, and finances.
Ensure fiscal responsibility by administering the program's budget within University and Department guidelines.
5. Assist with program promotion, public relations/community outreach appearances, and media-related activities.
Be actively involved in the fundraising activities of the program.
Serve as a resource for interested parties regarding the numerous events at Santa Clara.
6. Skillfully communicate with colleagues and student-athletes.
Serve as a role model and example of sportsmanlike conduct and of the qualities and values promoted by Santa Clara University.
Maintain active communication with internal constituencies, Associate Head Coach and Director of Rowing.
7. Display commitment to the academic success of student-athletes.
Work cooperatively and effectively with Academic Support Services staff to ensure student-athletes are complying with study hall hours, tutoring commitments, and overall academic progress.
Assist and/or monitor study hall program and actively communicate with student-athletes on academic matters and progress.
8. Abide by all conference, department, IRA, and NCAA regulations and assist to ensure departmental compliance.
Successfully pass NCAA recruiting test.
Attend all compliance seminars and reviews.
Maintain current CPR/First Aid certification.
9. Other Duties as Assigned.

E. QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of the sport of rowing and ability to communicate rowing fundamentals

Bachelor's degree preferred.
US Rowing Level 1 Coach certification preferred but not required.
