* College offices are normally open from 8:00 AM until 5:00PM, Monday through Friday. However, due to the nature of responsibility to the student body, individual offices or departments may have operating hours that extend beyond this period and may include evening or weekend hours. Non-exempt employees will normally work 8 hours per day.  Overtime (any hours more than 40 per week) for non-exempt employees is required to be approved, in advance by the department supervisor. Exempt employees will typically work at least 40 hours per week and such additional time as may be reasonably required to fulfill the obligations of their position description. Such additional work may include evenings and weekends and should be described in this document.

Has full responsibility to assist the head softball coach in the general supervision, recruitment, program development, training, and administration of the softball program. This position is a Campus Security Authority (CSA) as defined by the Clery Act.

Bachelorâs degree (B.A.) in a related field

Experience required to ensure success in this position:
Education may be substituted with one to two years related experience and/or training;

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.Â
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.Â

A valid Tennessee Driverâs license is required.Â
The successful completion of Driver Van orientation by the Maryville College Physical Plant.Â
Must be current in Red Cross First Aid and CPR.Â

Physical requirements:
Ability to navigate campus/public buildings and grounds, including indoor and outdoor athletic fields and facilities.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, or controls, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk and hear, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance.Â
Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Coaching Duties:Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
Assists the head coach in carrying out all assigned and auxiliary duties of the softball program.Â
Must have the knowledge and utilizes effective administration practices of the College Athletic Department policies; must assure compliance with NCAA and/ or conference policies.
Establishes good rapport and generates respect among students, campus colleagues, and the local community.
Coordinates efficient recruiting program with guidance from the head coach; identifying, evaluating, and finalizing status of prospective student-athletes. Works closely with admissions, financial aid, and athletic department to ensure recruiting efforts meet necessary standards.
Assists in the coordination of issuance and retrieval of all the programâs equipment.
Communicates with the Athletic Trainer(s) regarding player injuries, rehabilitative processes, and conditioning practices.
Assists in the monitoring of the academic progress of each student-athlete in program in conjunction with the academic counselor.
Assists in the supervision, security, and maintenance of the softball facility; promptly reports items requiring maintenance or security attention to the Director of the Physical Plant.
Attends all Athletic staff meetings as scheduled and works effectively with other coaches and staff.Â
Assists in the organization of all trips to include transportation, lodging, team meals, itineraries, and off-campus supervision of students.
Participates in college sponsored or off-campus camps and coaching clinics with the approval of the Athletic Director.
Assists in the observation and evaluation of players while they perform to determine need for individual or team improvement.
Assist in coaching players individually or in groups, demonstrating techniques of sport coached.
Assist in daily practice of players to instruct them in areas of deficiency.
Assist in determination of strategy during game, independently or in conference with others based on factors determined as weaknesses in opposing teams or strengths of our team.
Attends all of programâs athletic contests.
Office hours will be maintained as assigned by the Head Coach, Director of Athletic Facilities, and Athletics Director.
Auxiliary duties will be assigned by the Athletic Director and Head Softball Coach.
Â
Game Management
Supervises the game management of home athletic contests. Works closely with the head coach, the security staff, and the director of athletics in insuring a safe and fan-friendly environment of each home athletic contest assigned.
Meet with head coach to review management plan prior to the home athletic contest of each season.
Hire, supervise, and schedule all athletic contests personnel (announcer, scoreboard operators, student workers, statistics crew, etc.) during each athletic sportâs season. Coordinating these hires with the work-study supervisor and Director of Sports Information.
Coordinate necessary facility preparation for each event.
Meet visiting teams and officials (referees) and take care of their needs before, during, and after the contest.
Plan and supervise the security of dressing rooms for the home and visiting teams and the officials.
Maintain supervision of home and away spectators ensuring acceptable sportsmanship and conduct. Coordinate any type of disciplinary action or fan removal with the MC security office.
If applicable, manage the operation of ticket sales and file a financial report upon the conclusion of the event.
If applicable, supervise the operation of the concessions area and file a financial report.
Coordinate the closing of the facility after the event and make necessary changes to prepare the facility for the next activity.
Coordinate an athletic contests assessment with the head coach and the director of athletics after each event.
