Job Description

Position Department: Softball

Position Type: Staff Part-Time

Overview:

This individual plays a pivotal role in the strategic development, competitive success, and holistic growth of the student-athletes within the program. Operating in a high-stakes, fast-paced NCAA Division I environment, this position supports the Head Coach in all aspects of program management, including technical skill instruction (such as hitting, pitching, or defensive specialist work), tactical game-planning, and the identification and recruitment of elite-level prospects. Beyond the field and batting cages, the Assistant Coach serves as a dedicated mentor committed to fostering academic integrity, personal accountability, and strict compliance with all NCAA, conference, and university regulations, ultimately helping to build a championship-caliber culture that elevates the institution's athletic profile.

Responsibilities:

  • Player Development & On-Field Coaching Technical Instruction: Lead daily skill-development sessions and practices, specializing in a specific area (e.g., pitching/catching, hitting, or infield/outfield defense). Game-Day Strategy: Assist the Head Coach with scouting opponents, developing tactical game plans, and making real-time adjustments during games (e.g., calling pitches, coaching third base, or positioning defense). Video Analysis: Utilize softball-specific technology and analytical software to analyze player performance and scout upcoming opponents.
  • Off-Campus Recruiting: Travel to travel-ball tournaments, high school games, and showcase events to identify, evaluate, and recruit elite-level prospects.
  • Program Operations & Administration Team Travel Logistics: Coordinate team travel, including hotels, meals, ground transportation, and practice times on the road. Equipment & Budgeting: Manage softball equipment inventory, apparel distribution, and coordinate with brand sponsors (e.g., Easton, Rawlings, Wilson) for gear orders. Camps & Clinics: Plan, market, and direct youth softball camps and elite clinics to generate program revenue and assist in local talent identification.
  • Other duties as assigned.
