This position reports to the Assistant Athletic Director for High Performance/Head Strength and Conditioning Coach. Responsibilities include the training and motivation of student-athletes to maximize their potential for athletic performance and injury prevention. The Assistant Coach, Strength and Conditioning will, in conjunction with coaches and athletic trainers, organize and design conditioning, strength, power, speed, agility and flexibility programs for assigned sports, maintain safety, hygiene, and efficiency of the varsity weight room, and create, supervise, and schedule team workouts.
Develop and implement sport specific, scientifically based strength and conditioning programs for assigned teams. Have the knowledge and understanding of the rules and regulations of the NCAA and any conferences of which Saint Joseph’s is a member. Work cooperatively with coaches and the Sports Medicine staff to plan, organize, implement and supervise successful year-round sport-specific strength and conditioning programs. Stay abreast of all current trends, breakthroughs and developments in the science of speed, strength, and conditioning. Assist varsity student-athletes with rehabilitation programs prescribed and designed by physicians, physical therapists and athletic trainers from the High Performance team. Prepare reports for coaches on progress and testing. Understand current and changing NCAA, A10 Conference, and SJU Compliance Policy and Procedures Assist the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach with implementing and enforcing codes of conduct and rules for varsity weight room. Utilize, analyze, and create reports related to area specific technology (injury predictive technology, heart rate data, GPS data, etc…), and any other technology that is currently in place or will be added in the future.
Participate in required continuing education and certification programs to fulfill national certification; attend conventions, conferences, and clinics consistent with Department and University policies. Travel with teams when required. Present information at various meetings, seminars and special events. Other duties as assigned.
Early morning, evenings and weekend hours required based upon student-athlete and team schedules. Heavy lifting required. Significant time standing. Some travel required.
Bachelor’s Degree required and 1 year of experience in a collegiate or professional athletics environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience. NSCA-CSCS or CSCCa-SCCC certification required CPR and AED certification required.
