ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
The USF Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is an integral part of USF and its mission by sponsoring a diverse and nationally competitive Division I athletic program. The program serves several significant constituencies, including its student-athletes, who are students first. The most important priority of the program is the progress of the student-athletes toward graduation. Other priorities include the health, fitness and emotional development of student-athletes at USF. Intercollegiate Athletics provide a sense of collegiality, allegiance, and pride for students, staff, faculty, alumni, boosters and the greater Tampa Bay community at large and serves as a focal point for their support. Within the framework of competitive excellence, Intercollegiate Athletics at USF are also a contact vehicle leading supporters to a greater awareness of the University's mission, academic programs and prominence as an educational institution.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting directly to the Head Athletic Coach, this position's responsibilities include, but not limited to, designing, developing and delivering comprehensive strength, speed, agility, conditioning and nutritional supplement programs for assigned intercollegiate sport programs; communicating and working in partnership with sport coaching staffs and sports medicine staff to provide an integrated program of year round performance training, injury prevention and reconditioning for student athletes; administration and supervision of strength and conditioning internship program; educating student athletes and coaches on nutrition and supplements and other duties as assigned by the Director of Strength and Conditioning. Adheres to all NCAA, Conference, and institutional rules and regulations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervision of student-athletes - Includes demonstrating, describing, and holding athletes accountable for proper lifting mechanics. Instructing athletes through proper exercise progressions. Monitoring athletes so that they reach their maximum potential through overload and progression.
Design of scientifically proven strength and conditioning programs for assigned teams. Duties Include conducting needs analysis of sport skills and common injuries, research of proven strength and conditioning protocols, input from sport coaches, identifying time and equipment constraints, and producing an exercise program the athletes can understand and perform.
Facility Maintenance - Providing a safe environment for our student athletes to train. Includes equipment maintenance and sanitation, proper consideration to floor plan and flow, communication to facility director regarding temperature and air exchange, and assuring proper lighting.
Motivation of student-athletes: includes identifying goals for athletes by interpreting testing data, communicating with sport coaches, and meeting with student-athletes. Provide verbal feedback throughout training sessions. Provide counseling to student-athletes when needed or requested.
Testing and evaluation of sports teams - Includes identifying scientifically based testing protocols to evaluate student-athletes in the areas of athleticism. Maintaining and reporting testing results and data. Organization and implementation of testing protocols. Meeting with the various team coaches to discuss the testing results and how their athletes are progressing.
Nutritional counseling - Educate athletes on NCAA compliant and banned substances. Provide nutritional counseling on sound nutritional practices. Interpret body composition data and establish goals to student-athletes.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
This position requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in an appropriate area of specialization, and one year of coaching experience at the high school level or above. Successful experience as a graduate student or intern is acceptable for up to one year of the required experience. Additional education and/or experience may be required for certain sports, or for strength and conditioning coaches. Related coaching experience at the professional level can be substituted for the degree requirements.
FLSB1310 Equivalency:
4 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for bachelor's degree.
