Athletics: Men's Track & Field
Under the general supervision of the Head Coach, Track & Field/Cross Country, the Assistant Coach, Track & Field provides support and assistance of the intercollegiate Track & Field program, but is not limited to the following aspects; preparation of training/practice sessions, meet preparation, team travel arrangements, transporting athletes to meets, recruiting, managing recruiting database Front Rush Recruiting Program, assist with recruiting tours of the University, assist in planning and running a camp, and professional communication in regards to the Coaching staff and individual players.
Bachelor’s degree plus one year experience competing and/or coaching at the collegiate level with a commitment to Division
III
philosophy or equivalent combination of education and experience. Collegiate level coaching experience and experience with
NCAA
preferred.
Knowledge of Track & Field, especially in one of the following areas; Throws, Multi Events, and Pole Vault Working knowledge of
NCAA
DIII
Track & Field rules and the ability to coach critical meet preparation skills, as well as comprehensive training plan. Adheres to departmental policies and procedures, as well as rules and regulations of the University, the
MAC
and the
NCAA
. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to effectively communicate both within and outside the College including, but not limited to, student- athletes, parents, recruits, coaches, athletic training staff, and athletic department staff. Ability to provide effective leadership to student athletes to encourage both successful academic development and competitive performance. Ability to work a flexible schedule. Ability to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and travel with team to scheduled events.
Medium work: Position involves both inside sedentary work and outside work on the field coaching and training situations with student-athletes; Major hazardous conditions can result from the operations of field maintenance equipment; Exposure to fertilizer, lawn chemicals, and weather conditions.
Work with the Head Coach, Track & Field/Cross Country in developing individual athletes, training/meet plans, and individual workout and practice needs for various student-athletes; Work in conjunction with the Head Coach, Track & Field/Cross Country to encourage the development of psychological, social, and mental skills necessary for the student-athlete to be successful in the classroom, on the track and field, and in future endeavors; Assist with scheduling for practices and competition, interfacing with administrators and representatives from other schools. Monitor the conditioning and training of student-athletes working closely with Athletic Training staff; Assist the Head Coach, Track & Field by informing team leaders and individual players of their responsibilities, duties, roles, etc. Assist with developing and maintaining a system to identify potential recruits and to work closely with area high schools and travel coaches to recruit quality student-athletes to Stevenson University; Serve as a role model for the student-athletes by exhibiting ethical and professional conduct; Participate in clinics, exhibitions, and camps, as approved; Represent the Department at professional, civic, charitable, and alumni events, as requested; Represent Stevenson University at various local events, throughout the community; Cooperate with Stevenson University athletic personnel for efficient utilization of shared facilities; Assist with fundraising opportunities and budget preparations;
