Assistant Track and Field Coach (12-month, Full-time)

Athletics

Position Summary : Assist the Head Track and Field Coach in the fulfillment of his duties to train athletes, recruit athletes, maintain a first-class T&F facility, conduct quality home T&F competitions, maintain equipment and engage with the larger T&F community.

Qualifications : Requires bachelor’s degree. Previous College coaching experience preferred. Other requirements include: personal affirmation of the Christian mission of Westmont College and the Community Life Statement and adherence to its behavioral expectations, clear understanding of and ability to articulate the distinctives of a Christian Liberal Arts education; strong interpersonal and demonstrated organizational skills; solid administrative and tech skills. Requires a minimum of 1 year coaching experience. Requires some experience managing projects and performing financial analysis.  

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Instructs student athletes in how to maximize performance in their sport during practice and competition. This includes but is not limited to instruction through visual, auditory and kinesthetic learning methods both on the athletic field and in the classroom with study of technique, strategy, film, scouting reports, etc.
  • Plan, organize and conduct training sessions for sprints, sprint relays, pole vault, and a) meeting/walk and talk check-in with members of training group once a semester and as needed (b) end of each semester note of encouragement to team members combined events on a weekly basis for fall and spring semesters
  • Promote Westmont Track & Field with local and regional high schools (Santa Barbara, Ventura, SLO)
  • Continuing education/certification in assigned coaching areas
  • Present at Santa Barbara Athletic Roundtable for Track & Field
  • Develops recruitment strategies and perform direct recruiting functions as approved by the Head Coach. Manage coordination of recruit visits with Admissions, recruit, parents, coaches including required ‘paperwork’ and athlete documents. IRL updates, Visit request from, Team host form.
