Position Summary Information
| Position Purpose |
The Assistant Track & Field Coach assists in the overall organization, and administration of Mansfield’s NCAA Division II Track & Field program. Duties may include (but are not limited to): recruiting student athletes within the rules and philosophy of the NCAA, PSAC and CU Mansfield; evaluating student-athlete talent – both academically and athletically; emphasizing academic priorities to student-athletes; helping to organize/conduct all practices; scouting and providing appropriate strategy for competitive success; related administrative tasks; assisting with fundraising initiatives; and maintaining appropriate communication with students, other coaches, university staff, parents, and alumni.

| Description of Duties |
- To help plan, direct and organize all aspects of pre-season, in-season and post-season training, as well as competitions at the direction of the Head Coach.
- To help direct and be involved in the recruitment of student-athletes and to ensure that recruitment practices are consistent with all NCAA, PSAC, and Mansfield regulations.
- To plan and/or participate in fundraising activities associated with the sport of Track & Field.
- To assume responsibility for appropriate administrative tasks such as equipment inventory, travel arrangements and game management.
- Chart/report countable related athletic activities (CARA).
- Work with NCAA Clearinghouse to track student-athlete eligibility.
- Track recruiting with the Compliance Assistant Internet program.
- To assume other duties as assigned by the Head Coach

| Decision Making |
Must be adept at problem-solving; both in long-range situations and immediate “game-time” situations.
Will refer all decisions to the Head Coach for implementation.

| Fiscal Responsibility |
Develops and monitors operating budget in cooperation with the Head Coach. Is responsible for helping the Head Coach with fundraising efforts and Alumni engagement activities. Stays within a budget for all recruiting trips and team related travel.

| Supervisory Responsibility |
Will provide some supervision to student managers and student employees as well as student-athletes by adhering to position responsibilities and team rules.

Previous Track & Field participation or coaching experience.

Bachelor’s degree and previous collegiate Track & Field coaching experience.

Must be able to demonstrate an ability to be engaged in all aspects of a Division II Track & Field program; must be able to work independently at times; excellent interpersonal and organizational skills; demonstrated commitment to academic and athletic excellence; must have a general understanding of NCAA Division II rules and regulations and be committed to their implementation and observance. Candidates must be committed to a philosophy that emphasizes academic priorities for student athletes as well as the importance of good citizenship both on and off the field and must also demonstrate a commitment to diversity. Demonstration, through past accomplishments and behaviors, of the ability to support Mansfield University’s principles and values of Character, Scholarship, Culture, Service (http://www1.mansfield.edu/mansfield-creed) and the University’s strong student-centered vision and mission is required. Other conditions of employment include verification of all earned degrees through the receipt of original transcripts, acceptable background clearance check reports, authorization to be employed in the United States or the ability to obtain prior to commencement of employment, and positive references. Must also possess a valid driver’s license and have certification in CPR and First Aid within six months of the commencement of employment and must maintain certification during employment.

| Background Clearances |
Offers of employment are conditional, pending successful completion of the background clearances mandated by Act 153 of 2014 and Board of Governors Policy 2014-01-A: Protection of Minors. In order to qualify for a provisional appointment, the Applicant Acknowledgement Consent Form, Provisional Hire Form, Pennsylvania State Police and Justifacts portion of the clearance process must be successfully completed prior to your start date. The remaining PA Child Abuse History Clearance and FBI Clearance must be successfully completed and returned as soon as possible within the first 90 days of employment.
