Assistant Coach, Women's Rowing

High Point University Athletics department is seeking an Athletic Trainer/Assistant Coach to provide comprehensive medical care and athletic training services for Cross Country and Track & Field student-athletes. This role includes injury evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation planning, return-to-play decisions, and maintaining accurate medical records. The position also supports athletic training education through student supervision and contributes to program operations, recruiting, compliance, and student-athlete development while ensuring adherence to NCAA and university policies and promoting athlete health, safety, and well-being.

Education

• Bachelor’s degree required.

Experience and Training

• NCAA rowing experience strongly preferred.
• Collegiate Coaching experience preferred.

• Knowledge of athletic injuries, treatment methods, rehabilitation, record keeping, taping and bracing methods

• Analytical, problem solving and reasoning ability; independent judgment
• Ability to maintain confidentiality
• Organizational and time management skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office products and ability to utilize Smartabase injury tracking software
• Ability to travel as required

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :  

• Provides medical care and athletic training services for HPU Cross Country and Track & Field Student-Athletes
• Analyzes injuries, develops and implements treatment and rehab programs, makes doctor referrals and return to play decisions
• Preceptor supervising Athletic Training Students
• Assists with drug testing for collegiate athletics at HPU
• Ensures all student athletes have proper HPU Sports Medicine documentation submitted
• Inputs data for injured athletes into injury tracking software
• Maintains positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating effectively with students, students’ parents, faculty, co-workers and managers
• Other duties as assigned

ACCOUNTABILITY:

• Ensures appropriate medical care for student athletes for assigned sports 
• Provide supervision for athletic training students within CAATE- approved athletic training education program

Responsible for execution of specific strategic activities and outcomes within assigned sport or area. These will include sustained performance and execution in the following areas:

• adhere to Head Coach’s philosophy
• athletic instruction/coaching
• program operations and administration as designated by the head coach

Responsible for oversight of all administrative operations regarding student-athlete development. These will include:

• monitoring of student-athlete academic progress and well-being
• ensuring student-athlete participation in all assigned community service activities

Assist with recruiting:

• attracting and evaluating prospective student-athletes
• monitoring prospective student-athlete academic progress and well being
• developing and maintaining relationships with prospective student-athletes and other recruiting constituents
• identifying talent, setting up recruiting visits, and participating in active recruiting of prospective student-athletes
• recruit on-campus novice prospects

Assist with Team Social Media:

• coordinating with the head coach on social media strategy and posts

Accountable for maintaining personal compliance with all relevant governing bodies including:

• NCAA
• specific conference
• athletic department
• university policies
• Attendance at all required compliance educational meetings.
• Successful on-time completion of all recruiting logs.
• Accountable for maintaining professional relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
• Independent and unchallengeable decision-making regarding all student-athlete participation in assigned sport activities when head coach is not present.
• Accountable for student-athlete welfare while coaching.
• Exercises independent discretion on all purchases and budgetary decisions for program.
• Responsible for role modeling behaviors and leadership for student-athletes.

This position has been designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA), in accordance with the federal statutory requirements of the Jeanne Clery Act. CSAs are required to and responsible for reporting allegations of crimes they receive from students and employees to the Campus Safety Department.
