This role works closely with the Head Coach to foster a positive, disciplined, and student-centered environment that emphasizes athletic excellence, academic achievement, and personal development. The Assistant Coach contributes to practice planning, competition preparation, recruiting activities, and team operations while upholding University, conference, and NCAA standards. Through collaboration with athletics staff and engagement with student-athletes, this position plays a vital role in advancing the mission and values of the intercollegiate athletics program.

1. Promotes the philosophy and objectives of the intercollegiate athletics program, to include adhering to all Departmental policies and procedures, as well as the rules and regulations of UTPB, the NCAA, Lone Star Conference and those set forth by The University of Texas System and State of Texas.

Through collaboration with athletics staff and engagement with student-athletes, this position plays a vital role in advancing the mission and values of the intercollegiate athletics program.

1. Promotes the philosophy and objectives of the intercollegiate athletics program, to include adhering to all Departmental policies and procedures, as well as the rules and regulations of UTPB, the NCAA, Lone Star Conference and those set forth by The University of Texas System and State of Texas.
   
2. In conjunction with the Head Coach, plans and executes a successful program that would include duties such as: conducting regular team practice sessions; coaching the student-athletes; evaluating the student-athletes’ performance in practice and competition; monitoring the conditioning and training of student-athletes, advises and counsels student athletes regarding their obligations to comply with all rules and regulations related to financial aid and eligibility, as well as personal conduct and appearance. In the absence of the Head Coach, represents the program during practices and games.
   
3. Assists in recruiting functions including off- and on-campus visits, evaluations and contacts, and documents all activities as required per NCAA rules. 
   
4. Engages in all aspects of opponent scouting including breaking down film into manageable clips for student-athletes to view. Prepares and presents scouting reports to be presented to the student-athletes.
   
5. Schedules and supervise individual student-athlete workouts.
   
6. Participates in public relations activities, as approved, to include granting interviews with newspaper, radio and television media. Coordinates and implements approved fund-raising activities.
   
7. Ensures that necessary athletic equipment is available and in proper condition for scheduled practices and competition and makes recommendation for repairs or replacement, as necessary.
   
8. Participates in clinics, exhibitions and camps, as approved. Attends coaches’ preparatory meetings and implements strategies resulting from these meetings.
   
9. Manages and maintains collection of data from current performance monitoring system.
   
10. In conjunction with the sports information team, creates and disseminates social media across team platforms in accordance with university and department brand standards.
    
11. Oversees and monitors academic performance of student-athletes.

Required Qualifications

1. Bachelor's degree

2. Minimum of two (2) years coaching experience / collegiate or professional playing experience

3. Strong skills in communication, teamwork, and organization

Preferred Qualifications

1. USSF, USC, or equivalent coaching license

2. Experience or knowledge of NCAA DII rules

3. CPR and AED certification (current or willing to obtain)

Schedule

Generally, the normal work hours for the university are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 – 5:30 pm; Friday, 8:00 am – 12:00 pm with a one-hour lunch. The individual holding this position may need to be available early morning, evening, and on weekends to meet the needs of the department. Hours worked may differ with some departments.

Standard Working Conditions

1. Able to lift various materials up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis.
   
2. Able to bend, crouch, and reach continuously.
   
3. Physically able remain seated, frequently to continuously.
   
4. Able to remain standing up to 15% of the time.
   
5. Possesses dexterity abilities required to perform job duties including extensive keyboard work, operating office equipment, performing filing, and other job-related responsibilities that include extensive wrist and hand movement.
   
6. Standard working conditions may differ depending on department and occupation
