The assistant coach is responsible for supporting and assisting the teams in all areas that are key to developing competitive and successful programs. This is a full-time position and reports to the Director of the Cross Country / Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field programs.
Primary Duties: (may include additional responsibilities as deemed necessary by Head Coaches):
- Acquisition of knowledge about NCAA Division III rules and regulations, USA South Athletic Conference and Meredith College policies
- Assist both head coaches in carrying out their responsibilities.
- Keep abreast of new knowledge, innovative ideas, and techniques in coaching both sports.
- Assist head coaches in recruiting quality student-athletes that will contribute to a competitive DIII program.
- Assist head coaches in making a systematic issuance of school equipment.
- Assist head coaches in implementing “Athletic/Academic Standards.”
- Share responsibility for proper maintenance and improvements of equipment and facilities being used.
- Assume supervisory control over all athletes in the program when needed.
- Regular attendance at practice and competition sessions.
- Apply discipline in a firm and positive manner.
- Ensure personal and team ethical conduct during practice and contests.
- Assist in the return and inventory of school equipment.
- Assume responsibility of driving school van/bus to transport athletes.

Program Responsibilities:
- Other duties as assigned by the head coach or athletic administration.
- Attend all mandatory athletic department staff meetings and events.
- Recommend purchase of equipment, supplies, and uniforms as need demands.
- Maintain accurate inventory/records of the equipment and create a report at the end of each season for the head coach.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Working knowledge of all aspects of the cross country and track and field programs.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills and willingness to work with students.
- Must be able to travel and be trained in operating college vehicles.
- Valid NC Driver's License and clear driving history required.
- Interest in and an aptitude for performing tasks listed.
- USATF and/or USTFCCCA Certification in appropriate event groups preferred.
