Position Summary:

The Assistant Coach is responsible for the support of all aspects of the student-athlete involvement throughout the entire Kansas Track and Field/Cross Country program which includes recruiting prospective student-athletes, coaching current student-athletes, and supporting current student-athletes as they pursue their academic goals. The Assistant Coach will assist the Head Track & Field/Cross Country Coach with the successful administration of the Track and Field/Cross Country program as the program pursues its goals and objectives academically and athletically.

Responsibilities of all Positions at Kansas Athletics:

1. Adhere to University, Kansas Athletics, Big 12 Conference, and NCAA policies and procedures;
2. Maintain knowledge of departmental activities, sports schedules and procedures;
3. Foster cooperative relationships with follow staff members within the department;
4. Support the athletic department goals and philosophies as described by the Director of Athletics and work to achieve and uphold the department’s mission statement and core values;
5. Maintain a positive attitude toward performing job duties and in working with other staff members;
6. Exhibit professional decorum at all times while representing Kansas Athletics;
7. Maintain the confidentiality of all information obtained while an employee of Kansas Athletics including all private, confidential, or sensitive information and ensuring compliance with FERPA, HIPAA, and other applicable regulations.

Responsibilities of this Position:

1. Support the program philosophy and vision exhibited by the Head Track & Field/Cross Country Coach;
2. Serve as the department’s Recruiting liaison;
3. Identify, develop, and implement a recruiting plan to successfully identify, recruit, and retain top talented prospective student-athletes;
4. Evaluate and coach Track and Field/Cross Country student-athletes;
5. Work closely with the Academic Advisor and Head Coach to monitor and encourage academic excellence throughout all areas of student-athlete academics;
6. Serve as a mentor to student-athletes and foster personal growth and development, while creating and fostering an environment that promotes the overall health and welfare of student-athletes;
7. Assist the Meet Director with the scheduling of home events, any needed coordination of team technical needs, and overall coordination and management of home events;
8. Submit expense reports and other information that is requested in a timely manner;
9. Responsible for knowledge of and full commitment to compliance with all NCAA, Big 12, University, and Kansas Athletics rules and regulations;
10. Maintain an active involvement in the sport of cross-country, track and field and its national and collegiate organizations;
11. Update the Head Coach Track & Field/Cross Country Coach and staff on current trends and developments within the sports of track and field and cross country;
12. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics, Head Track & Field/Cross Country Coach, or their designee.

 ** Required Qualifications:**

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university;
• Minimum of one year cross-country or track coaching experience;
• Proven ability to teach and motivate student-athletes at a Division 1 level;
• Knowledgeable about NCAA rules and regulations that govern Cross-Country, Track and Field;
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills;
• Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail;
• Ability to work well both independently and in collaboration with staff as a team member;
• Creative problem-solving skills and solutions focused approach to challenges and improvements;
• Ability and willingness to work occasional evenings, weekends, or holidays as needed during peak game and recruiting seasons.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Three years or more experience as an intercollegiate cross-country and distance track coach;
• Possess the necessary USTFCCCA certifications;
• Knowledge and experience in recruiting student-athletes internationally and domestically at a collegiate level.

Annual Base Salary: $59,500

Work Environment
This job operates in both a professional office environment and outside at Track and Field, Cross-Country related events, including inclement weather. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers and various digital devices, including, but not limited to: cell phone, printer, copy machine, and other related devices. This job requires flexibility and adaptability in schedule and the ability to perform job related duties on short notice.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. This position may require frequent bending, moving, lifting, and carrying material weighing up to 50 pounds; standing up to eight hours each day; and working in all weather conditions.

Travel
Domestic and International travel is expected for this position.

Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work will vary based on the needs of the Track and Field program and as job duties demand. Early morning, evening and weekend work may be required.
