REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:  Is directly accountable and responsible to the Head Cross Country/Track & Field Coach.

Position Description & Details:

Bismarck State College is seeking a dedicated and passionate Assistant Cross Country/Track & Field Coach to join our athletics team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cross country and track and field, with the ability to recruit and coach both male and female student-athletes who excel both academically and athletically. This role requires collaboration with the head coach in developing practice plans and traveling to competitions.

 

Responsibilities:

• Recruit and coach intercollegiate cross country and track and field athletes who are capable students and competitive athletes.
• Assist the head coach in developing and implementing practice plans.
• Travel with the team to competitions, ensuring athletes are prepared and supported.

Duties:

• Create daily, weekly, and yearly practice plans for the assigned event group.
• Facilitate training in technique, competition rules, and strategies.
• Motivate student-athletes to attend classes, study, and graduate.
• Promote sportsmanship, cooperation, work ethic, and responsibility to the team.
• Schedule and supervise practices and physical conditioning sessions for the assigned event group.
• Handle game day assignments, including gymnasium set-up and/or field preparation.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

• Continuously – 66-100% - Stand, walk, sit, use hands dexterously, reach with hands and arms, talk or hear.
• Frequently – 34-66% - Stoop/kneel/crouch or crawl.
• Occasionally – 1-33% - Lift up to 50 pounds.

Minimum Requirements: - Appropriate bachelor’s degree or high school diploma or GED, and two years of cross-country and track and field coaching experience. - Effective public and interpersonal communication skills. - Knowledge of a specific sport’s concepts/strategies and NJCAA rules and regulations. - Recruiting skills and ability to assess athletic talent. - Leadership and motivational skills, and ability to serve as a positive role model. - Ability to sell the College and its athletic program to potential students. - Ability to organize and implement fundraising projects. - Good computer software skills – Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Word, Excel, etc.), email, and electronic calendar. - Ability to build and sustain a successful intercollegiate athletic program.

Preferred Qualifications: - College coaching experience.
