The Assistant Director and Head Coach of Maverick Esports provides leadership and is the University expert in all aspects of the Maverick Esports program, and is responsible for organized esports competitive play, student recruitment, and community engagement. This position is responsible for creating and supporting an intentionally structured program environment to foster student success; serving as a connection to esports and gaming Student Organizations, and coordinating program representation at department and university functions. Additionally, the Assistant Director and Head Coach manages all aspects of program marketing, fundraising, and sponsorship. Position works closely with the Program Director, other departments within the Division of IT Solutions and across the University to ensure the success of Maverick Esports.
Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field with two (2) years of experience in esports and/or student development, or equivalent experience. Proven experience with esports program administration and/or development, and team management.Excellent communication (verbal and written), planning, organizational, interpersonal, and mentorship skills.
Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment. Master’s Degree.Experience in training and empowering individual students and groups.Demonstrated effectiveness in applying student coaching theory/practices.Excellent communication skills including verbal, written, and interpersonal.Proven ability to recruit on a national level, instruct and motivate student players on esports fundamentals, techniques and safety rules and regulations and provide academic and personal mentoring.
Work safely at all times, which includes but is not limited to, participating and completing all required safety trainings, as well as performing all job tasks in accordance with Minnesota State University, Mankato policies and procedures utilizing appropriate tools, equipment and personal protective equipment.Work involves performing many tasks on evenings, weekends, and holidays. Therefore, evening meetings and participation and attendance at programs/activities/events during evening and weekend hours is expected.Possess a valid driver’s license.Prior to the date of appointment, this position requires a criminal background check conducted by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA).Based upon this position’s essential functions, it typically reports to Esports Training facility located on the Mankato campus, five (5) days a week, and may have the option of telework for up to twenty (20) percent of work time during academic break periods. Telework is at the discretion of management and defined and implemented in accordance with HR/LR Policy #1422 (Telework Policy).
