What we want
The Assistant Director’s primary responsibilities will be to serve as an assistant director to assigned band organizations within the department of Music Activities. Responsibilities will include serving as assistant director of the Aggie Band, conducting a newly formed fifth concert band while assisting with remaining concert ensembles, serving as logistics coordinator for selected Aggie Band duties, and serving as a colleague to lend support and assistance to all students and staff within the Music Activities Department. Participates in developing departmental strategic plans based on departmental goals. Represents the department, division, or University on various committees. Participates in planning, directing or coordinating operational matters to meet department goals and objectives. Handles special projects as assigned by the Director of Music Activities. Position details: Position requires moderate physical activity related to the instructing and directing bands. Work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends. Travel required.
Required Education and Experience:
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to ensure understanding.
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong preference given to candidates with a master's degree and at least four years of experience.
Experience or familiarity with 6 to 5 military marching band style.
Essential Duties/Tasks
Assistant Director, Texas Aggie Band - Playing and marching rehearsal and performance duties associated with the Texas Aggie Band (marching band). Attendance required at performances (football games, parades, university functions, etc.). Assist with supervision of the band whenever officially representing Texas A&M University in a performance situation.
Concert Band Conductor - Serve as the primary conductor of a newly created fifth university concert band, to include musical supervision (both in rehearsal and performance), planning and recruiting. Assist with the four remaining concert bands as assigned by the Director of Bands.
Logistics Supervision, Texas Aggie Band - Perform logistical duties in support of the Aggie Band as assigned by the Director of Bands. Duties will include instrument inventory oversight, some assistance with travel planning, responsibilities related to the Music Activities Center (rehearsal facilities), and attending assigned university meetings as a representative of the Aggie Band.
Administrative/Other Duties - Represents the department, division, or University on various committees. Other duties as assigned.
