SUMMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION : The Assistant Director for Athletic Communications supports the promotion of all facets of the Athletic Department to internal and external constituencies to heighten visibility and expand support for varsity intercollegiate programs. The incumbent collaborates on the designs and production of brochures, game programs, newsletters, and social media posts, oversees gameday statistical operations and promotion of select sports with direct supervision of student workers. The Assistant Director supports the work of the Athletic Communications Director to ensure the responsibilities of the area are effectively covered.
In carrying out these responsibilities, the incumbent follows the University’s best practices to build and/or support student academic success and retention and assist in meeting strategic objectives for persistence and timely graduation of all the student population.

EXAMPLES OF PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Athletic Communications & Media Relations
Serves as the primary communications contact and oversees game day statistical operations for assigned varsity programs
Oversees all aspects of publicity and day-to-day media relations for assigned varsity programs and serves as a backup for other programs
Assists with ensuring the department is versed and innovative in all media relations areas, including, but not limited to press box management, in-game statistics, coordinating video web streaming, photography coverage, and social media engagement
Assists with growing regional network of coverage while working to increase publicity of the University's athletic programs and academic achievements
Supports Corsair of the Week selections and quarterly celebrations
Digital Content & Creative Production
Supports the department with highly visible and effective social media presence
Monitors and tracks social media engagements, ensures consistent branding and delivery while identifying new social media strategies and emerging technology
Serves as editor for game highlights, cinematic recaps, hype videos, and featured content for social media including video interviews and press conferences
Creates programs, gameday/final score, and other graphics for social media and website
Supports the promotion of games, special events (e.g., conference championships, Corsair Hall of Fame, The Arnie’s), and national initiatives (e.g., NCAA Division III Week, National Girls and Women in Sport Day, Diversity and Inclusion Week, National Student-Athlete Day)
Operations Support & Student Workforce Coordination
Trains, manages, and handles scheduling for student workers
Attends and participates in department staff meetings and trainings
Assists with major events sponsored by the department
Provides input on resource needs, including student staffing and support requirements, to assist departmental planning
Performs other job-related duties and responsibilities that may be assigned and/or the job description changed periodically to reflect changing organizational needs
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
EDUCATION : Bachelor's degree
EXPERIENCE :
Demonstrated (3 years) experience supporting game day operations including statistical reporting and live event coverage
Previous (1 year) experience working with media relations/public relations
Experience with photography, graphic design, and visual content creation for digital and social media platforms
OTHER : Evening, weekend, and holiday hours expected; occasional local and regional travel required
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s degree
Experience working in a collegiate athletics, sports information, or comparable intercollegiate sports environment
Experience with video production, editing, or broadcasting in an athletics environment
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Self-motivated with attention to detail and accuracy
Experience with game day statistics for multiple sports
Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
Computer proficiency and knowledge of Adobe Creative Suites, including InDesign, Photoshop and video or digital content tools (e.g., Spark)
Experience with statistical software (e.g., Genius/Presto) and website administration (e.g., SIDEARM)
Excellent writing skills
Ability to promote a diverse and inclusive campus community
Demonstrated ability to create, edit, and publish multimedia content for digital and social media platforms
Working knowledge of social media platforms and best practices, including platform-specific content creation, audience engagement, and performance tracking
Ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a deadline-driven, live-event environment
Demonstrated ability to train, schedule, and supervise student employees, including providing guidance, feedback, and ensuring accuracy and timeliness of work
Working knowledge of collegiate athletics operations and the NCAA Division III environment sufficient to support game-day coverage, statistics, and communications functions
Ability to work collaboratively with coaches, student-athletes, campus partners, and external media while maintaining professionalism and consistent brand standards
