Assistant Director of Athletic Communication

Required Qualifications (as evidenced by attached resume):
Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Two (2) years of full-time experience working in an Athletic Communications/Sports Information/Media Relations office (collegiate or professional) or a sports journalism and/or marketing/promotions environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Experience with desktop publishing software. Experience with statistical software. Experience with multi-media platforms. Previous experience with a Division I Athletic Program. Experience in a professional sports organization. Experience in athletic game day operations as it relates to PR, Communications, and/or Media.

Brief Description of Duties:
The Athletic Communications Assistant is responsible for the overall communication of athletic department news, intercollegiate contest results, team/department accomplishments and all other athletic department related information by initiating and cultivating relationships with local, regional, and national print and electronic media outlets to increase public awareness of his/her assigned sports programs. The assistant is independently responsible for the game management & multi-media efforts (department website; television shows; play by play or color commentary duties for radio broadcasts; coordination of webcasting/video-streaming of intercollegiate contests) as well as the creation and production of press releases, media guides, feature stories, and other communication-related duties for each sport program they are assigned. The selected candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Athletic Communications Office Daily Responsibilities:

    • Daily responsibilities include reporting of intercollegiate contest results, management of media outlets, scheduling interviews with coaches & student-athletes, coordinating photo-shoots, promoting teams and student-athletes for local, regional & national awards, representing the athletic department at local, regional & national media functions, and supervising multiple student employees working in the office. In addition, the assistant will be responsible for coordinating all aspects of the “End of Year” department banquet which includes, creating, producing, editing, and commentating the “End of Year” sports video and writing the event script.
