Job Description

The Assistant Director of Athletic Communications assists with the development, implementation, and management of a comprehensive public
relations strategy including media outlets, social media, website management, photography, video collection, and live streaming to provide
exposure to Florida Tech's varsity athletic teams. This role will support the University’s mission of providing high-quality education to a
culturally diverse student body to prepare students for entering the global workforce, seeking higher-education opportunities, and serving
within their communities, and Florida Tech athletics mission of developing diverse athletes into scholars, champions, and leaders prepared to
become global influencers in their relentless pursuit of greatness. Florida Institute of Technology is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic
Association (NCAA) Division II and the Sunshine State Conference (SSC).

  • Assists with the operations of the athletic communications department (social media content, feature writing, and managing/updating FloridaTechSports.com), and managing all academic, competition, community engagement content, and all event management tasks for sports covered in adhering to all athletic and University policies and protocols, use of all athletic and university software and technology systems, documentation, travel arrangements, equipment/supplies, maintenance, orders, and community service.
  • Creation and implementation of the public relations plan for each assigned sport, production of athletic department printed and digital assets, and collaboration with the Director and Assistant Director for Athletic Partnerships & Promotions in developing event scripts, public address announcements, etc.
  • Assist with the development and coordination of photography (headshots, team and action, headshots, and community engagement) and live event video streaming and video content production (including the end-of-year athletic awards event).
  • Assist with the coordination and compilation of all record books and other historical data for sports covered including the oversight of maintaining accurate inputting of statistics utilizing approved NCAA software, distribution of official stats to coaches, opponents, Sunshine State Conference, NCAA, and other required services (including the nomination of scholar athletes, coaches, and teams for weekly, pre/postseason academic, and athletic awards).
  • Responsible for demonstrating a commitment to and complying with the policies and guidelines established by the Federal Government, University, Athletics Department, NCAA, and Sunshine State Conference (SSC) for conducting all program activities including but not limited to: o The University has established a tradition of ethical conduct at all levels of university life. In accordance with this tradition, the Assistant Director, as a member of the Athletics Department agrees to always represent the University in an honorable and ethical manner. Standards for ethical conduct are established and enforced by the University, Florida Institute of Technology, the SSC, and the NCAA. o The Assistant Director will be a Campus Security Authority (“CSA”) as defined by the Clery Act. As a CSA, the Assistant Director will comply with university policies on the reporting of crime statistics and related information to the official designated by the University for the purposes of Clery Act reporting. o In compliance with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, the Assistant Director will be a Responsible Employee as defined by University policies on Sexual Harassment and Sexual Misconduct, a Responsible Employee, the Assistant Director will report incidents of sexual misconduct (including sexual harassment and sexual violence) and other inappropriate sexual conduct to the University’s Title IX Coordinator or other appropriate designee as required by University policy.
  • Demonstrates establishing positive, mutually respectful, and effective working relationships with scholar-athletes, coaches, administrators, faculty, alumni, the public, and internal and external local, regional, and national media representatives.
