Position Summary
The University of Southern Indiana is accepting applications forAssistant Director of Athletic Communications.
The Assistant Director of Athletic Communications will report to the Director of Athletics Communications, will be responsible for the production of ESPN+ broadcasts, creation of Screaming Eagles Arena audio/visual content, and other creative services needed for Athletics and Screaming Eagles Arena.
The successful candidate will be utilized to produce live events and development of creative content (video and still) that can enhance awareness, attendance, and revenue for Athletics. The ideal candidate will have a track record in video content creation, digital marketing and creative services.
They should possess excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, as well as a strong ability to work independently and collaboratively. The Assistant Director of Athletic Communications will play a crucial role in building Athletics’ reputation and audience by producing high-quality video content and executing live events that engage and excite fans.
Duties/Responsibilities
Oversight of USI's live video production on ESPN+ to include pre-production and/or directing of live streamed events.
Hire, train, and evaluate student video production staff that will be responsible for directing, producing, camera operation, graphics and replay duties in-game.
Work with Assistant Athletics Director for Development and Director of Athletics Marketing and Fan Engagement to develop and implement a comprehensive digital marketing and creative services plan in collaboration with the athletics marketing, strategic communications, sponsorships, and development staffs that will increase awareness, drive attendance and revenue, and promote the brand of USI and Athletics and USI.
Produce creative video content for the athletic department (i.e. highlight reels, video interviews). Content will be distributed via USIScreamingEagles.com, Athletics’ social media and traditional media outlets. Archive and log video content.
Produce fan engagement videos, as well as animated and graphic video content for in-venue videoboards. Occasionally shoot photos.
Work with the School of Liberal Arts to develop and coordinate internship program that will provide USI students with an experiential learning opportunity in development of creative content and digital marketing.
Assist in developing and executing the digital and social media strategy for the athletics department and sport programs. Design branded elements for use in digital mediums
Assist in coordination of special events (i.e. fundraising events, Hall of Fame) by providing and/or arranging video support, including, but not limited to, video content for each program/event, interviews, highlights/recaps, etc.
Required Knowledge and Skills
Bachelor's degree, preferably in sports communication or a related field.
2-3 years of experience in live and recorded athletic video production. Work as a graduate assistant or undergraduate may be considered.
Knowledge of trends in the industry, and techniques and principles of camera operations, staging, lighting, audio recording and formatting of studio and location video shoots.
Knowledge of various video production and editing software programs.
Knowledge of social media platforms and the latest trends and best practices for multimedia applications.
Basic knowledge of collegiate athletic media relations practices and operations.
Preferred Knowledge and Skills
Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, especially Premiere and After Effects.
Experience with video cameras. Position requires considerable initiative, creativity, and independence.
Evidence of strong communication skills.
