Job Summary:

Responsible for assisting head coach with recruiting and teaching a team of student-athletes the skills of their sport, teambuilding skills and mentoring the athletes in academic and personal character development and administrative responsibilities as assigned by the head coach.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Serves as a representative of a distinctively Christian University displaying courtesy, tact, consideration, and discretion in all interactions with other members of the HCU community and with the public.
2. Proactively monitors and educates athletic department and University personnel to ensure compliance with NCAA rules.
3. Analyzes and evaluates prospective-student-athlete initial eligibility and transfer eligibility.
4. Conversant with NCAA platforms such as the Eligibility Center, Compliance Assistant, Transfer Portal, and LSDBI portals, in addition to Banner, Slate, and recruiting monitoring services for record keeping and monitoring (Spry).
5. Understands continuing eligibility issues to proactively identify potential APR issues and provide solutions.
6. Assists in sending out beginning of year forms to student-athletes and coaches, creating and distributing initial eligibility evaluations, overseeing state required financial literacy training for all first-year student-athletes, and monitoring athletics personnel.
7. Strong knowledge and understanding of NCAA and Southland Conference rules, processes, and sports.
8. Strong writing and oral communication skills, capable of interacting thoughtfully and considerately with student-athletes, coaches, administrators, peers at other institutions, the NCAA, prospective student-athletes and their families.

Other duties and Responsibilities:

1. Assist the Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance and Academics, Director of Academics, Assistant Director of Compliance/Scholarships, and Athletic Director with projects as needed.
2. Serve as athletic department main contact for Spry compliance software.
3. Regularly interacts with departmental, University, Southland Conference, and NCAA constituents.
4. Must follow all NCAA and conference rules

Knowledge and Skills: Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s Degree preferred in an area related to the position (i.e. sports management, law, business, education). Proficient in Word and Excel. Must be able to travel as necessary. Must be able to work 40+ hours per week as the schedule demands. Must be able to communicate with various constituencies in person, via phone, and by email.

Fiscal Responsibility: none.

Physical Demands: Must be able to sit for long periods at a desk. In exercising these functions, the employee must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. occasionally and up to 10 lbs. regularly.
