Position Summary Information
The Assistant Director for Athletics Sports Performance reports directly to the Athletics Director, and is responsible for the overall management and successful implementation of a strategically proven philosophy for a Division I strength and conditioning program for all student-athletes, in addition to designated sport-specific duties, and supervisory responsibilities.Austin Peay State University is a four-year public, doctoral-level university, with six colleges and four Chairs of Excellence. The University has an enrollment of over 9,000 students and is located in Clarksville, Tennessee, a community of an estimated 166,000 people located approximately 40 miles northwest of Nashville, TN.
Provide leadership, oversight and ensure implementation of sport-specific strength and conditioning programs for 18 sports programs on a year-round basis. This shall include developing, monitoring and evaluating strength and conditioning, speed, and agility regimes and ensure fundamental instruction for student-athletes is provided. Direct full-time, part-time strength & conditioning coaches, and interns, volunteers, and work-study personnel on all sports performance-related issues, managing resources, operations, scheduling, and maintenance of all weight strength and conditioning facilities. Creating a positive and motivating workout culture. Work closely with all head coaches, or their designee, to plan, organize and facilitate strength & conditioning needs of each team, including scheduling use of weight room facilities. Collaborate effectively with Athletic Health Care staff to ensure student-athletes’ needs are appropriately managed. Maintain proper strength & conditioning equipment and making recommendations for the purchase of new equipment. Ensure safety measures and proper oversight of athletic weight training facilities. Communicate effectively with students, coaches, staff and alumni. Adhere to University, NCAA and Conference rules and regulations. Build effective partnerships with co- workers throughout the University by freely sharing appropriate information and providing assistance when needed. Ensure optimum service to all internal and external partners in response to all requests for service and information. Maintain an environment that is welcoming to persons of all backgrounds, nationalities, and roles. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Effective communication, interpersonal and public relations skills Demonstrated knowledge and application of NCAA rules and regulations Experience working effectively in diverse environments. Supervisory/staff development experience and the ability to effectively supervise personnel Experience with training techniques including but not limited to: core stabilization, plyometric, and speed and agility Ability to operate with integrity and high ethical standards and the ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information Ability to maintain the safety of all student-athletes, coaches and staff at all times
Medium work- Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Bachelor’s Degree in kinesiology, exercise science, biomechanics or related field. Minimum of three (3) years previous experience as a strength and conditioning coach in Division I collegiate environment The ability to work effectively with diverse groups Certification through CSCS, NSCA and/or CSCCa required CPR and First Aid certification Early mornings and evenings required. Some weekend work required. Attendance at athletic events is expected.
