Position Summary:
Wingate University’s Department of Music seeks to hire an Assistant Director of
Bands/Director of Athletic Bands for January 2024. The position is an 11- month instructor position.

diverse candidate pool. The Wingate Music Department is a collaborative and supportive environment
that seeks to build community and respect between and among faculty and students, encourage
excellence in music making, and honor students of all backgrounds and experiences.
Duties/Responsibilities:
• Provide visionary and administrative leadership in creating a Marching Band and
re-imagining the Pep Band
• Recruit outstanding students for the Music Department and the athletic bands and maintain a
high visibility among music programs in the region in order to grow enrollments of music
majors and band participants
• Collaborate with Athletics, Enrollment and Student Life to re-imagine the game day
experience
• Additional duties include but are not limited to one-on-one instruction, ensemble instruction,
event management, organizing group travel, equipment inventory supervision, developing
alumni contacts, promoting fund-raising initiatives, budget planning and oversight, and
administrative responsibilities with large group events including summer music camps, music
festivals, and marching competitions
Qualifications and Experience:
• Master’s Degree in Music preferred, Master’s Degree required
• Minimum of 3 years K-12 public school teaching experience or professional equivalent
preferred
• Prior experience in a leadership role with a collegiate athletic band program required
• Demonstration of quality performances with athletic bands
• Salary is commensurate with candidate’s experience
