| Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
The Department of Athletics exists to provide educational and athletic opportunities to young men and women, to provide an environment for student-athletes to learn, advance and excel both academically and athletically, and to serve the interests of the University by complimenting and enhancing its diversity and quality of life. Through its athletic programs, the University seeks to unite alumni, faculty, administration and students in a common shared experience. The governing unit within the Department of Athletics is the Director’s Office, which is the administrative office and clearinghouse for the entire Department of Athletics, and promotes the department’s guiding principle of educating and inspiring through athletics. This unit provides support to administrators, coaches, staff members and student-athletes in order to provide and promote a premier intercollegiate athletic program for The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The Department of Athletics is a highly visible public relations arm of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with statewide, national and international recognition.

| Position Summary |
The Assistant Director of Engagement and Leadership for the Department of Athletics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is responsible for cultivating collaborative and innovative programs for Men’s Basketball Student-Athletes on building a transformational athletic experience that will continue to impact them well after Carolina. Intentionally engage alumni, donors, parents and supporters of Carolina to create and maintain a healthy department culture and an environment of well-being for all Men’s Basketball student-athletes.

| Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree required (or foreign degree equivalent) with at least 1 year of experience in relevant independent instructional or educational activities; specific minimum experience is at the discretion of the Director of Athletics.

| Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Previous experience participating in, or leading, Student-Athlete career development or similar experiences. Working knowledge of NCAA rules and policies. Experience with Microsoft Office products. Ability to develop relationships with a diverse Student-Athlete population. Must be willing and able to be flexible with hours, including work evenings and weekends.

| Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Prefer experience in curriculum planning and development, student services, and alumni relations. Experience in an NCAA intercollegiate environment helpful.

| Special Physical/Mental Requirements |
May be required to lift/move 25 lbs or greater. Must be able to manage a fast-paced, high volume environment. Attention to detail essential. Must be able to travel.
