Assistant Director of Event Management

The University of Iowa Department of Athletics seeks applications for an Assistant Director of Event Management. This is a full-time (probationary and FLSA-exempt) position which includes full University benefits. The University of Iowa is an NCAA Division I institution and a member of the Big Ten Conference. Responsibilities: The Assistant Director of Event Management organizes, schedules, supervises and administers NCAA, Big Ten Championships and special events hosted by the Athletic Department, assists with regular season event management activities and coordinates the department’s customer service program.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience;
• One year experience and working knowledge of intercollegiate sport regular season and championship event management processes, issues, considerations and solutions;
• Professional experience working effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trusting relationships;
• Working knowledge of and ability to meet or exceed customer service needs and expectations and maintain productive, long-term relationships with staff and patrons;
• Excellent oral and written communication skills; extensive proficiency in the ability to utilize practices, tools, and techniques for developing manuals and corresponding with customers.

• Working knowledge of and ability to:

  • Utilize basic office support software (word processing, email, presentation software and spreadsheets)
  • Operate effectively within a highly regulated team environment.

Desired Qualifications:

• Basic knowledge and understanding of the professionalism and intensity necessary to successfully contribute to a Division I athletics program;
• Minimum of two years of full-time experience working in an NCAA Division I event management unit;
• Demonstrated experience in effectively training and managing temporary, student and volunteer staff to ensure day-to-day operations and day-of-event operations run smoothly;
• Demonstrated event management experience (both regular and championship seasons) working with the sports of Field Hockey, Gymnastics, Softball, Swimming & Diving, Tennis and/or football is highly desired.
