Job Description
Essential Functions:
● Directs the initial eligibility process of all incoming WFU prospective student-athletes in accordance with NCAA, ACC, and WFU rules and policies/procedures.
● Serves as the primary athletics liaison to the WFU admissions office and NCAA Eligibility Center. Prepares appropriate information, as needed, to WFU coaches and staff related to NCAA initial eligibility requirements, WFU undergraduate or graduate admissions requirements, pre-enrollment, orientation, transfer rules under NCAA and WFU policies or procedures, pre-enrollment amateurism requirements for the NCAA, and eligibility reports.
● In partnership with the WFU Registrar’s Office, Student-Athlete Services counselors, and Athletic Compliance office, provides information and assists with managing the eligibility certification process for all WFU student-athletes.
● Assists with NCAA mandatory reports (e.g. APR, GSR).
● Communicate with coaches, academic and compliance staff daily regarding tracking of recruited prospective student-athletes and evaluation of any potential deficiencies, challenges and/or concerns with a prospective student-athlete’s initial eligibility.
● Works directly with the compliance staff regarding tracking prospective student-athletes who will be requesting non-athletic institutional need-based financial aid from WFU.
● Ensure that all transcript and initial eligibility information is updated in compliance software daily.
● Serves as the primary athletics liaison to WFU International Student Services (ISS) for prospective international student-athletes and communicates with WFU coaches, staff, and compliance regarding ISS and immigration requirements for admission and enrollment.
● Produces reports and updates databases as needed for the NCAA and WFU.
● Assist the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Services with summer school lists and reports.
● Assist in coordinating the class registration process for student-athletes around practice and/or competition times.
● Meets with prospective student-athletes to discuss initial eligibility and admissions requirements. Respond to questions from prospective student-athletes and/or parents and present rules education to coaches and staff regarding changes in NCAA initial eligibility regulations or Wake Forest admissions standards or requirements.
● Attend applicable NCAA and ACC meetings and stay updated on relevant NCAA or ACC legislation.
● Assist in preparing various NCAA reports.
● Adhere to and enforces all Departmental policies and procedures, as well as rules and regulations of the University, the Atlantic Coast Conference, the NCAA and other authorities that may legitimately influence programs.
● Maintains current knowledge of trends and changes related to compliance in intercollegiate athletics.
● Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
BA/BS plus 3-5 years of experience in Division I NCAA Compliance, University Admissions, University Registrar’s Office or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
• Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
• Ability and desire to perform assigned work with the utmost accurate detail – oriented work, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, prioritize tasks as assigned, and maintain confidentiality and a professional demeanor.
• Ability to understand, comply with, and enforce NCAA, ACC and University rules and regulations.
• Ability to foster a cooperative environment.
• Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to work evenings and weekends, as needed.
• Ability to display high integrity at all times
• Valid driver license with good driving record; must be insurable.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
● Master's degree and experience in NCAA Division I compliance office or student-athlete services office.
● Experience using NCAA software applications (EC, Academic Portal, Transfer Portal).
● Experience using ARMS and Teamworks
