The Athletics Department is seeking an Assistant Director of Marketing and Fan Experience. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position.The mission of the OSU Department of Athletics is to Go Build Excellent, Authentic, Visionary Student-Athletes (GO B.E.A.V.S.). Reporting to the Director of Marketing & Fan Experience, this position will create, develop, and promote events while assisting in the execution of marketing strategies through various communications. The purpose behind the position is to promote the athletic department.This position will be responsible for sport specific marketing, assist with supervision of student intern program, community and grassroots marketing, advertising (including email marketing) and play an active role with the BeaverDam student group, as well as the kid’s club programs. This position will have project/event level responsibility, which includes effectively recommending event budgets with final approval by Director of Marketing and Fan Experience. This position has the autonomy to direct student staff, including scheduling for assigned marketing events.

30% SPORTS SPECIFIC MARKETING / STRATEGIC IMPLEMENTATION Provides oversight for the marketing, promotions and game day events for assigned sports (applies leadership and management for external business constituencies, half time performers, advertisers, and appropriate music and entertainment). Applies theoretical strategies and best practices to create, develop and execute marketing plans as appropriate. Works in conjunction with Beaver Creative teammates and Communication staffs to promote home events, focusing on attendance and entertainment. Generates reports (data, trend analysis, longitudinal studies) to provide feedback to the unit as it develops its comprehensive marketing strategies. Analyzes financial revenue streams related to each strategy in each sport. 25% COMMUNITY AND GRASSROOTS MARKETING Manages grass-roots campus and community promotional efforts within specified sports. Jr. Beavs Kid Club and the BeaverDam student group. Maintains the day-to-day of both programs while also making suggestions for revenue generation potentials through both programs. Builds community relationships that assist in the scheduling of entertainment (halftimes, anthems, etc.) across all sports. 20% EMAIL MARKETING AND DIGITAL ADVERTISING Works with the Ticket and Beaver Creative staff to develop and deliver all email marketing and digital advertising campaigns. Uses Adobe Creative Suite to upgrade graphic templates, as needed, to complete execution across all necessary platforms.15% SUPERVISION OF STUDENTS / INTERNS Assists with providing leadership and direction for 20-30 undergraduate students and interns as assigned. Plans, assigns, and approves work. Performs student evaluations.5% FOOTBALL ON-FIELD GAME DAY CONTACT Takes co-lead on execution of football game day promotions on the field and within the stands at all home football games. Works under the direction of Director Marketing and Fan Experience, and in conjunction with Beaver Sports Properties, to ensure that all game elements are executed. 5% MARKETING TRADE Takes co-lead on managing and maximizing all marketing trade, including but not limited to: T.V, radio, print and game day partners and entertainment. Works with Ticket and Business Office to manage these relationships and prospect future partners.
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Sports Management, or related field. Two (2) years of experience in athletic marketing/fan experiences (student work to be considered at a .5 rate). A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity. This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.
Demonstrated effective communication skills. Experience in creating marketing collateral and/or concepts for an athletic department. Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite.
This position requires evening and weekend work. It also requires infrequent, sporadic travel. This position has access to secure areas and expensive collateral materials (t- shirts, carnival games, technical equipment).
