Reporting to the Assistant AD for Strategic Communications, the Assistant Director for Athletic Communications is responsible for publicity and marketing in support of the University’s NCAA Division I intercollegiate sports. Tasks include: oversight of the athletic department’s webpage, social media accounts, press releases and statistical records; gameday promotions; and ticket sales. Primary sports information contact for sports as assigned. Night and weekend work required as needed.
Work Performed:
Media and Public Relations. Designated primary contact for all local, regional, and national media outlets. Coordinates all interviews for coaches and staff for assigned sports. Supervise and approve content posted on all program/department social media accounts for assigned sports. Produce content and develop program media guides and other printed materials for assigned sports. Schedule and produce video content for distribution for assigned sports.
Website. Oversee and assist in planning all content published on gwusports.com. Conduct routine general website maintenance and enhancements.
Statistics and Program Records. Management and distribution of Live Stats and StatCrew/Genius files for all assigned events. Maintain and update program record books for assigned sports.
Gameday/Event Operations. Oversight of gameday media staff both part-time and full-time staff. Management of press box and table at select events. Coordinate execution of gameday scripts and PA reads with Marketing. Manages scoreboard operations at select sporting event. Scheduling and management of gameday staff both part-time and full-time staff.
Design Elements and Graphics. Collaborate and design all published content, promotional materials, and social media graphics for assigned sports.
Supervisor Responsibility: Multiple part-time and game day staff, work study students and interns.
Support Ticket Sales Efforts via the management of the Ticket Sales website onwww.GWUSports.com, which includes; ensuring that the correct prices are posted for all our ticketed sports, the correct ticket options are available for sale, promotion of ticket sales initiatives via press releases, and social media posts, dissemination of weekly and monthly sales data to campus administrators.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education. Bachelor’s Degree
Skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.
Experience. Self-starter with an outstanding work ethic. 1-3 years’ experience in a related field is strongly preferred.
Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook).
Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
Experience using Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) strongly preferred.
