The Esports Assistant Coach will be responsible for aiding the Esports Head Coach in developing, launching and growing the Esports program. The position will help connect, recruit and interact with student-athletes as well as assist in attracting cross-cultural and diverse candidates to compete in tournaments, open play nights, Gaming Summer Camps, Gaming Clinics, Gaming Workshops, Gaming Scrimmages, University sponsored gaming leagues and other fundraising events.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Assists in identifying vital needs and strategy of the Esports program including game strategy and skill instruction, multiplayer strategy, league strategy, sponsorship strategy, diversity & inclusion strategy, fundraising strategy, clinic and workshop strategy, camp strategy; social media strategy and marketing strategies;
Assists in managing the Esports players and program in a manner appropriate to support the goals of the university and develops strong sustainable platform/program for all age and experience levels;
Assists with tryouts and team selections; assesses skills, experience, tracks development and guides and supports technical growth;
Assists to ensure that program maintains a strong social media presence in coordination with the Office of Communications to ensure it is compliant with university standards;
Collects and analyzes feedback and stats for Esports athletes to assess performance and experience and progression;
Collaborates with Athletics staff to ensure event schedules and programmatic needs are coordinated properly;
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or equivalent; Associates degree preferred
Must provide at least one (1) year of evidence of competing or coaching one or more of the top tournaments, leagues or popular games (Call of Duty, Fortnite, League of Legends, Rainbow Six Siege, Rocket League, etc.) competitive scene and meta.
Must demonstrate a strong and diverse understanding of gaming industry, competitive play, industry titles, gaming genre aspects, and gaming club mechanics and fundamentals;
Must have excellent speaking, writing and interpersonal skills and manage conflict; Ability to articulate ideas and strategies; Must be self-motivated and have ability to motivate and lead student-athletes toward competitive and academic success.
Required to travel with the team (evening and weekend travel required).
Must maintain a valid driver's license, motor vehicle liability insurance and personal injury insurance, and complete the University Van Driver Training within 90 days of employment date.
Must clear and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance
Must have the ability to demonstrate basic skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, and outlook); experience with virtual meeting platforms such as zoom;
Must have a high ethical standards and a strong sense of confidentiality
Must be able to work flexible hours including sporting and non-sporting events that may occur on weeknights, weekends, and possibly holidays
Must have ability to work effectively with faculty, staff and students from a variety of diverse backgrounds.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Working conditions are in an office environment and university campus setting. Must be able to move across the university campus to conduct day to day business.
While performing this role, the employee work outdoors when they work at athletic fields, sporting events, practices, or job sites, work indoors in a gym or other athletic facility.
While performing this role, the employee will be regularly required to sit, walk, stand, bend, stoop, crouch, kneel, twist, balance, and work at a desk, to include pushing and pulling cabinet drawers, talk and hear, both in person and by telephone; and use hands repetitively to operate standard office equipment; and occasionally required to lift up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus, and ability to distinguish letters or symbols and eye/and coordination.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions and is frequently exposed to extreme cold. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme heat, and risk of electrical shock. And may be exposed to loud and distracting sounds.
Frequently communicates with others using approved technological resources; must be able to exchange accurate information through designated systems within a timely manner.
Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery. Able to operate the following equipment: computer, game station equipment, and telephone.
