The Assistant Equipment Manager reports directly to the Head Equipment Manager and is primarily responsible for the procurement, distribution, inventory, and maintenance of personal athletic equipment and apparel for student-athletes, coaches and staff.

Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
• At least one year of relevant experience or the equivalent.
• Ability to work independently, handle multiple tasks and set priorities.
• Strong work ethic, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to deal with a variety of constituents in a timely and professional manner.
• Ability to anticipate and meet deadlines, coordinate work of others, and remain accessible for inquiries.
• Ability to become certified by the Athletic Equipment Managers Association.
• Ability to work evenings and weekends.
• Must have a current Driver’s License.
• Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds over their head.
• Experience in Stock room control.
• Knowledge of athletic clothing, laundering, equipment, and compliance issues.
• Knowledge of ice hockey and/or ice hockey equipment.

Key Accountabilities
| Description |
Equipment Management
• Oversees and/or performs the day-to-day equipment issue, turn-in transactions, and laundering of game bags and practice gear for sport(s) as assigned.
• Maintains athletic equipment in proper repair and inspects equipment for damage that can be mended readily.
• Fits and maintains all protective equipment and ensures all equipment meets safety regulations to appropriately protect student-athletes.
• Packs game equipment and athletic clothing for home and away games.
• Packs player bags and equipment onto applicable mode of transportation for away games of sport(s) as assigned. Unpacks and sets up the locker room at opponent’s facility. Repacks van for return trip and unpacks and stores student-athletes’ equipment upon team’s return.
• Educates coaches and athletes in the maintenance of clothing and equipment.
• Coordinates the purchase of, and issues annual participation awards.
• Assist in set up of “yard sales” which includes cleaning, folding, and pricing of all excess clothing to be sold to the general public.
• Provides the proper services (towels, laundry, uniforms, etc.) for visiting team.
• Assists in the maintenance of laundry equipment and troubleshoots problems as necessary.
• Assists with laundry service of the training room, fitness center, physical education, and intramural department as needed.
• Assist in checking in new items and helping to prepare items to go out for embellishment.
• Ensures all embellishment orders meet institutional, conference and NCAA rules and regulations.
• Covers all home and away games. Sets up and breaks down equipment items necessary for competitions.

Records Management
• Maintains the inventory of all athletic equipment for sport(s) as assigned.
• Keeps a record of issuance of equipment to student-athletes, coaches, and athletics staff.
• Monitors the the rosters sport(s) as assigned, via the department-wide software; ARMS, to ensure that equipment and apparel are issued only to those who are eligible per NCAA and Ivy League rules.
• Conducts inventories of clothing and equipment of each of specified sports at the conclusion of each respective season.
• Assists in the development of new systems, policies and procedures, (e.g., student billing systems, instructions for laundering all clothing, long range inventory tracking system, etc.).

Budget Management
• Assists the Head Equipment Manager by providing input regarding the purchasing of new apparel and equipment as necessary.
• Ensures that the purchasing of any apparel or equipment is in accordance with any applicable budgetary limits.
• Assists coaches in acquisition and maintenance of necessary equipment.
• Assists in the collection of monies and crediting proper accounts when athletes contribute funds toward purchases (e.g., track shoes).
• Follows up with coaches to determine replacement needs and uniform conditions, etc.
• Conducts student billing for lost or damaged equipment and clothing.
