Characteristics of Job:
The assistant football coach works under the direction of the Head football Coach and is
responsible for all duties as assigned by the head coach or the Director of Athletics. This
position has limited independent decision-making and no supervisory responsibilities.
Examples of Duties or Responsibilities:
• Teach specific aspects of football including the fundamentals and overall strategy,
• Assist in game scheduling,
• Assist in recruiting,
• Prepare practice plans,
• Organize travel plans and overall operation of program,

Examples of Duties or Responsibilities:
• Teach specific aspects of football including the fundamentals and overall strategy,
• Assist in game scheduling,
• Assist in recruiting,
• Prepare practice plans,
• Organize travel plans and overall operation of program,
• Scout opponents and give input into game plan strategies,
• Support fundraising effort of athletic department, and
• Job responsibilities include driving on University business for your
department whether the frequency is daily, weekly, monthly, or
occasionally.
• Other duties as assigned by head coach or athletic department.
Minimum Requirements:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree
Experience: One or two years related experience or training; Previous coaching experience at
the University level preferred, possible high school coaching experience will be considered.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and
maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals,
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence,
• Ability to work as a team player with Athletic staff as well as with faculty, staff,
students and general public,
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in
written, oral, or diagram form,
• Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized
situations,
• Knowledge of Internet, Inventory, and Order Processing software preferred,
• Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel Word Processing software,
• Knowledge of operating office equipment such as computer, printer, copier, and fax,
• Possess excellent people and organizational skills, and
• Excellent written and verbal communication skill.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, etc.: Valid Driver’s License
Post Employment Requirements: Maintain Valid Driver’s License
Other Requirements:
• Extensive travel during season with overnight and weekend, and
• Work evening and weekend hours.
Typical Working Conditions and Unique Physical Requirements:
• Work is normally performed in a typical interior office and gymnasium environment,
• Noise level is usually moderate,
• Visits high schools and other off-campus facilities,
• Transport students in automobile,
• Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear.

• Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, or crouch.
•
Frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to
25 pounds when transporting team equipment,
Frequently required to stand; walk and sit.
• May require physical effort in climbing stairs.
• No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
