JOB SUMMARY
The Assistant Football Coach reports to the Head Football Coach while working collaboratively with the Strength and Conditioning Coordinator, Head Athletic Trainer and other Assistant Coaches. The Asst. Football Coach will work with the Head Football Coach in all aspects of design, development, implementation, monitoring and assessment of game and practice strategies for assigned student-athletes at the NCAA Division II level.
MAJOR DUTIES
Provide leadership, organization and supervision for all practices and contests.
Implement and maintain standards of performance consistent with departmental, academic, and athletic expectations.
Work with the Head Football Coach to organize and implement a successful recruiting program to attract outstanding student-athletes to attend Northeastern State University.
Conduct aspects of the program within the rules, regulations, and procedures of the NCAA, MIAA, the intercollegiate athletics department policy manual and the University.
Attend and participate in department and staff meetings and events.
Review student-athlete eligibility requirements to ensure full compliance with governing rules and regulations.
Maintain a positive and constructive working relationship with University and departmental support staff to ensure an efficient and effective program and department.
Represent the University at professional meetings, alumni gatherings, campus activities and civic affairs.
Maintain relationships with parents, alumni, friends of the program, and others toward the positive image and promotion of the program

Be knowledgeable of and fully comply with all appropriate rules and regulations of Northeastern State University, the MIAA Conference and the NCAA
Prepare, record and retain documentation as required
Adhere to the mission statement and guiding principles of the Department.
Perform other duties as assigned by the direct sport report and the Director of Athletics
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
Experience recruiting and retaining a diverse group of successful student-athletes
Competitive coaching experience at the collegiate or high school level
Strong commitment to student-athlete academic achievements and character development
Effective communication skills, verbal and written
Ability to work effectively and productively within a team-based approach
Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines in a high demand/high stress profession
Ability to respond professionally and competently
Ability to contribute to a positive work environment
Ability to set challenging goals and seek continuous improvement
Ability to demonstrate leadership characteristics within athletics and throughout the university
Computer and social media technology competency
Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license.
Demonstrated knowledge of, and relevant ability with, culturally diverse communities among potential target and constituent populations.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
When applicable, the Asst. Football Coach will supervise intern(s), Graduate Assistants, and student managers who assist during football sessions. The supervisor assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.
GUIDELINES
Guidelines include department and university policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific, but may require some interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
The work consists of related administrative and management duties. Frequent interruptions contribute to the complexity of the position.
The purpose of this position is to manage assigned operations.Success in this position contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of those operations.

Contacts are typically to provide services, to give or exchange information, or to resolve problems.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work is typically performed standing while coaching and demonstrating football activities. The employee regularly lifts heavy objects.
The work is typically performed in an office, the stadium, and outdoors in cold/hot or inclement weather.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
When applicable, the Assistant Football Coach might supervise graduate student workers who assist with tasks as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree
Certified as a speed, strength and conditioning coach issued by a certifying entity.
First Aid/CPR/AED certified
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree
Master’s preferred
First Aid/CPR/AED certified
