Full-time, 12-month position. Monday-Friday; office work schedule varies. Evening and weekend work will be required. Includes all practices and competitions as well as recruiting. Light travel is also included.
The Assistant Football Coach assists the Head Football Coach in conducting all aspects
of a highly competitive football program including coaching, recruiting, student-athlete development, academic success of student-athletes, practice and game planning, management of staff/students, rules compliance, camps, and alumni engagement. This position supports and upholds a philosophy of athletics consistent with
NCAA
Division
III
and conducts the program according to all
NCAA
Division
III
, Northwest Conference, and university rules and regulations. Reports to the Head Football Coach.
Plan, organize, coordinate, and coach within the academic and athletic philosophies of
PLU
, Northwest Conference, and
NCAA
.
Identify, attract, and recruit prospective student-athletes within the framework of
PLU
and
NCAA
policies, and in conjunction with admission personnel.
Assist with creating opportunities to engage donors and alumni in fundraising.
Display good sportsmanship in relationships with students, staff, officials, and opponents.
Contribute to game preparation through tape review, breakdown, and scouting report preparation.
Provide transformative learning opportunities that challenge and support students.
Support student-athlete academic and athletic excellence, leadership development, team development, and community service.
Complete Title IX Module.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge of

Athletics philosophy rules and regulations and ability to work within those parameters.
Strong demonstrated knowledge of sound principles and rules governing football.
Excellent interpersonal skills including tact, diplomacy, flexibility, and ability to communicate ideas effectively.
Demonstrated skill in prioritizing and maintaining diverse workload, establishing and meeting goals and deadlines, and independently following tasks through to completion.
Ability to interact effectively with others in pursuing departmental objectives including various student needs in a range of academic and non-academic issues.
Knowledge of academic requirements for admitted and continuing students.
Ability to effectively manage time in a demanding work environment.
Skills to arrange away contests; ensure coordination of travel rosters, advance requests, transportation, food, lodging, equipment, expenses and trip reports.
Proven skills in use of personal computer systems; knowledge of related word processing and database management software (
ARMS
); awareness of social media opportunities.
Familiarity with video exchange software (
HUDL
) and support technology.
Bachelor’s degree.
Three years of successful football coaching experience.
Experience teaching/coaching/competing at collegiate level in football.
Experience in supervisory endeavors associated with personnel management.
CPR
/First Aid certification; may be obtained on the job.
Valid driver’s license (Must have had a valid driver’s license for at least 2 years).
Finalist applicants must satisfactorily complete pre-employment background check,
provide an original copy of their Driving Record (5-year Employment Abstract) and pass
PLU’s Driver’s Certification Training.
Master’s degree.
Previous recruiting experience at the collegiate level is highly desirable.
