Job Description:

Wittenberg University is accepting applications for a full-time Assistant Football Coach, Defensive Coordinator. The Assistant Football Coach assists the Head Coach with the daily operation of the football program in the NCAA Division III and the recruitment of student-athletes. This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt-level position.  

Job Summary:

As a member of the coaching staff, responsibilities include working closely with the Head Coach to develop and coach an NCAA Division III athletic team and assist with all phases of directing and managing a successful program. Maintain knowledge of defensive coaching strategies and oversee all aspects of the team defense. Actively ensure compliance with all NCAA and Wittenberg University rules and regulations; participate in establishing goals and objectives for each season; recruiting and assessing prospective student athletes for the program. Reflect Wittenberg University's academic mission and commitment to building a diverse and inclusive community. Design and provide instruction on individual and team skills and physical health and safety to student athletes. Participates in fundraising projects and other activities promoting the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics. This position will have Coordinator job responsibilities.

Responsibilities and essential functions include:

• Responsible for organizing and administering all phases of the defense, within the framework of the overall football program, including defensive staff organization.
• Responsible for developing, organizing and administering a defensive game plan as well as setting daily and weekly goals for the defensive unit.
• Responsible for the final defensive scouting report.
• Responsible for all offensive opponent scouting game video breakdown.
• Responsible for self-scouting the Wittenberg defense.
• Responsible for coordinating all meetings, walk thrus, and practices with the defensive staff.
• Responsible for post-game video grading and evaluation of primary position group as well as conducting a review of all defensive personnel.
• Responsible for assisting head coach with public relations concerning students, faculty, alumni, and other community groups.
• Responsible for maintaining academic progress by overseeing study tables, performing class checks, and conducting weekly meetings with academic groups.
• Responsible for complete management of recruiting area.
• Responsible for evaluation of defensive personnel and defensive roster management

Requirements:

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 3 years related experience; demonstrated ability to plan and conduct pre-season, in-season and non-traditional and post-season team/individual athlete practices and competitions; experience recruiting athletes, scheduling and coordinating special events or athletic contest, excellent organizational, interpersonal skills, and strong attention to detail are required. Cultural competence and effective communication skills are required. Master's degree or progress towards and advanced degree and previous experience working in a college or university athletics department is highly desired.

Travel is required as well as some evening, night, and weekend work.
 

A valid driver's license is required; must meet required insurance qualifications found in Wittenberg Motor Pool policies and procedures. If license is from out of state, successful candidate will need to obtain a valid Ohio driver's license within 30 days of hire date.
