Wheeling University, an NCAA Division II Catholic university, and member of the Mountain East Conference invites applications for a full-time Assistant Head Coach, Men's Basketball. Responsible for fulfilling all position-specific requirements to assist in creating a viable NCAA D-II men's Basketball program. Must be able to travel out of town for extended time periods and have the ability to work extended hours, such as evenings and weekends. Requirements include a valid, current driver’s license; NCAA Compliance Certification; and First Aid, CPR and AED certification. Proficient in using recruiting software program Front Rush.

Works with head coach and graduate assistants to plan, organize, and execute all individual skill and team practice sessions.

Scouting and Recruiting

Job Duties

Accountable for scouting and recruiting of future student athletes. Includes following all NCAA, conference and University regulations and guidelines; assessing athletic talent and academic performance of potential student athletes; determining who meets the athletic requirements and University academic standards; and coordinating scholarships per the University’s approved model. Other duties as assigned.

General Support

Supports the sport’s program. This includes representing the University in all sport specific activities; assisting the Sports Information Director in the organization of sports information materials such as media guides, press releases and community public relations programs; assists with program budgets; purchases uniforms and equipment; coordinates pre-season medical exams for student athletes; scouts opponents and prepares game plans; establishes itineraries and makes travel arrangements. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Education Level Required

Bachelor’s Degree

Minimum Experience Level Required

Collegiate playing experience; Prior experience on collegiate coaching staff preferred.

Compliance Responsibilities Required

Required to ensure NCAA, conference and University policies and mandated requirements are correctly interpreted and met and documentation is maintained per policies and procedures; maintain qualifications and certification(s) and complete required annual training.

Other

Required to have a valid driver’s license; NCAA Rules Compliance Certification; and First Aid, CPR, AED certification.
