The Assistant Manager for Soccer and Athletics Grounds Services will actively maintain and enhance all athletic landscapes, primarily focusing on the soccer field. This working assistant manager will be in the field daily, performing maintenance tasks, supervising groundskeeping staff, and ensuring the highest standards of field preparation. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in sports turf management, excellent leadership skills, and a dedication to providing a safe and visually appealing environment for athletes and spectators. This role requires a balance of practical fieldwork and effective team leadership.

Job Description:
Responsibilities:
Partner and collaborate with the Grounds Assistant Manager: Baseball and Athletics Grounds Services to oversee the daily maintenance of the surrounding landscapes within the athletics exterior facilities, including mowing, irrigation, fertilization, aeration, and planting
Ensure the soccer field is prepared for practices, games, and special events, including proper lining, surface preparation, and goal setup
Supervise, train, and schedule groundskeeping staff and student workers, ensuring efficient and effective work performance
Provide staff training and development opportunities to enhance their skills and knowledge in sports turf management
Oversee the inventory, maintenance, and operation of groundskeeping equipment and tools, ensuring proper procurement and stock levels of necessary supplies and materials
Assist in developing and managing the grounds services budget, ensuring cost-effective use of resources
Promote a culture of safety by conducting regular safety training and inspections
I communicate regularly with the Assistant Director for Events Operations, the PLNU Manager of Grounds and Horticulture, and the Assistant Director of Campus Facilities and Service Management about the state of the grounds and fields and any issues that arise
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Turf Management, Horticulture, Sports Management, or a related field preferred
Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in sports turf management, with a focus on soccer field maintenance
Proven leadership and supervisory experience
Strong knowledge of sports turf management practices, including irrigation systems, pest control, and soil management
Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
Valid driver’s license required
Pesticide applicator's license preferred
This position is considered essential personnel and must be available outside of normal work hours if needed to support contingency operations such as support of special events
Evidence of Christian commitment and active church involvement. In addition, staff agree to live in agreement with PLNU’s Community Life Covenant.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, kneeling, and working outdoors in various weather conditions
Must be able to work both indoors and outdoors, performing heavy manual labor in all kinds of weather, including inclement weather conditions
Proficiency in operating groundskeeping equipment and machinery, including large reel mowers
Standing, stooping, and kneeling positions for extended periods of time and must be able to work in a sitting/standing position on a piece of equipment for extended periods of time
