ABOUT POMONA COLLEGE AND PITZER COLLEGE: Pomona College, established in 1887, is the founding college of the Claremont Colleges, a consortium of five undergraduate institutions and two graduate institutions in Claremont, CA, on the eastern edge of Los Angeles County. Pomona College has a comprehensive liberal arts curriculum spanning the arts, humanities, social sciences, math and sciences, emphasizing critical thinking and high impact practices. Pitzer College, established in 1963, was founded as an innovative liberal arts institution, initially specializing in social and behavioral sciences, but has since expanded to other fields. Pitzer’s academic programs emphasize social justice, intercultural understanding and environmental sensitivity. The 21 varsity Pomona-Pitzer Athletic teams comprise of students from both colleges, and compete in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) and the NCAA Division III. The Colleges have a combined enrollment of 2,600 students.
POSITION SUMMARY: Responsibilities include assisting the head coach with on-course coaching, organization of practices & qualifying rounds, recruiting of potential student athletes, helping with statistical player evaluations, golf instruction and training, camps and clinics operations, and managing social media accounts. Assistant should be familiar and work to remain compliant with college, SCIAC, and NCAA rules and regulations. Must have the ability to travel and work extended hours and most weekends during the season. The department is particularly interested in candidates who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience required; previous playing or coaching experience is required. Capacity to positively interact with and support a culturally, ethnically, economically, and socially diverse population of students, faculty and staff.
REQUIRED HOURS: Must be able to work extensive weekend, early morning and/or evening hours during the season. Travel will be required for Fall and Spring tournaments which are typically 3-4 days each.
ADDITIONAL POSITION DETAILS: This is a part-time, non-exempt position. Starting pay rate: $16.50 per hour. There is potential for additional part-time work in the department and additional income earned through camps and clinics.
