POSITION SUMMARY: The Assistant Men’s and Women’s Tennis Coach is responsible for assisting all aspects of the tennis program, including recruitment, training, game strategy, academic monitoring, and fostering a culture of sportsmanship and excellence both on and off the field. The assistant coach will provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to student-athletes while adhering to the mission, goals, and values of the university and the NAIA. Responsibilities: • Develop and execute a strategic plan for recruiting talented student-athletes who align with the academic and athletic standards of Avila University. • Establish and maintain relationships with high school coaches, club coaches, and other recruiting networks to identify prospective student-athletes. • Manage the admissions process for recruited student-athletes, ensuring compliance with NAIA regulations and university admissions standards. • Implement initiatives to support the academic success, personal development, and retention of student-athletes. • Design and implement comprehensive training programs that focus on skill development, physical conditioning, and tactical proficiency. • Conduct regular practices, conditioning sessions, and film review sessions to prepare student-athletes for competition. • Foster a positive and competitive team environment that encourages teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship. • Provide individualized feedback and support to student-athletes to maximize their potential both athletically and academically. • Develop and implement effective game strategies, formations, and tactics that capitalize on the strengths of the team and exploit the weaknesses of opponents. • Scout upcoming opponents and analyze game footage to identify key trends, tendencies, and areas of opportunity. • Make real-time adjustments and decisions during games to maximize the team's chances of success. • Promote a culture of resilience, adaptability, and sportsmanship during competition. • Ensure compliance with all NAIA rules and regulations governing recruitment, eligibility, and competition. • Maintain accurate records of student-athlete eligibility, playing time, and academic progress. • Collaborate with athletic department staff to coordinate team travel, equipment purchases, facility scheduling, and other administrative tasks. • Manage the tennis budget responsibly, making strategic decisions to optimize resources and support the program's goals. • Serve as a visible and positive representative of Avila University and the tennis program within the university community and the broader community. • Participate in alumni events, community service projects, and other outreach initiatives to engage stakeholders and build support for the program. • Assist with fundraising efforts to secure financial support for scholarships, facility improvements, and program enhancements. Qualifications: • Collegiate tennis playing and/or coaching experience. • Irregular work hours such as weekends, holidays, and evenings are to be expected. • Multilingual skills highly preferred. • Ability to contribute to a climate that supports a diverse student body, serves first-generation college students, multilingual learners, and contributions to equity and social justice through their work.
