Job Summary

The Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach supports the Head Basketball Coach in leading the OPSU Men’s Basketball Team in accordance with the goals and values of the university and the National Association Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). This position involves coaching, training, transporting, recruiting, mentoring student-athletes, and assisting with the overall organization, operation, and promotion of the OPSU Men’s Basketball Program.

Responsibilities

• Assist in coaching and training student-athletes.
• Provide instruction, film-break down, feedback, and performance improvement plans.
• Support student-athletes in balancing academic and personal growth.
• Assist with identifying, evaluating, and recruiting prospective student-athletes in compliance with university and NAIA policies.
• Build strong relationships with Coaches, AAU directors, families, etc. in order to help with growing the OPSU Men’s Basketball Program
• Assist with planning and executing practices, home games, travel logistics, and fundraising events.
• Help management of our home court. Cleaning, Wet/dry mopping.
• Ensure student-athletes & officials are prepared for home game events.
• Maintain inventory-- Practice Uniforms, Game Uniforms, Basketballs, and other supplies
• Assist with budget management, fundraising, and promotional efforts for the program.
• Support compliance with university policies and NAIA rules and regulations.

• Provide academic support and mentorship, ensuring students remain in good academic standing.
• Be available and capable of driving University vehicles to help transport MBB student-athletes
• Must be able to lift more than 50-lb. objects; frequent bending, stooping, and walking
• Ability to work various hours, including nights and weekends throughout the year for practice, events and recruiting.
• Be able to transport team to the contests, and be responsible for their well-being.
• Could be exposed to a variety of weather conditions.
• Other duties as assigned by the or his/her designee

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree required, Masters preferred
• Valid driver’s license required
• Playing or Coaching Experience preferred
