About This Position
The Assistant Men's Basketball Coach supports the Head Men's Basketball Coach in all aspects of the men's basketball program. This position plays an important role in the development of student-athletes through coaching, recruiting, academic support, and program operations.
The Assistant Coach helps create an environment focused on athletic achievement, academic success, character development, and sportsmanship. Responsibilities include assisting with practices, player development, recruiting efforts, game preparation, student-athlete support, and compliance with institutional, conference, and NAIA regulations.

This position serves as a mentor and role model for student-athletes while contributing to a positive and competitive team culture aligned with the mission and values of McPherson College.

Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the instruction, development, and mentoring of student-athletes
- Support practice planning, game preparation, and competition management
- Participate in recruiting and retention efforts to attract quality student-athletes
- Promote academic success, eligibility, and personal growth among team members
- Support team travel, game operations, and program administration
- Foster a culture of sportsmanship, accountability, and teamwork
- Assist with compliance related to McPherson College, KCAC, and NAIA requirements
- Represent McPherson College Athletics positively with students, families, alumni, and community partners
- Support budget management, equipment oversight, and other program operations as assigned
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to effectively mentor and support student-athletes
- Commitment to the mission and values of McPherson College
- Ability to work collaboratively with students, coaches, faculty, and staff
Preferred Qualifications
- College degree preferred
- Two to three years of basketball coaching experience, preferably at the collegiate level
- Experience recruiting prospective student-athletes
- Knowledge of NAIA and conference eligibility requirements
- Experience supporting student-athlete academic success and development
Work Schedule
Work hours generally follow the team's practice and competition schedule. Typical office hours are Monday through Friday; however, evening, weekend, and travel commitments are required throughout the year to support practices, competitions, recruiting activities, and other program needs
