Statement of the job

The University of Maine at Farmington (UMF) is seeking applicants for an Assistant Men's Basketball Coach. This position assists the Head Coach with all aspects of leading an NCAA Division III Program, such as instructing players on the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques.

This is a part-time, seasonal position. The typical season is from October 15th through March 15th.

Essential Duties

• Participates in games and practices, including organization and implementation of daily practices.
• On-court coaching in competition and training.
• Prepares film breakdown and analysis; presents analysis to team members.
• Plans and prepares for games and training.
• Organizes team travel and meals.
• Assists with scouting, recruitment, and strategy development.
• Supports player and leadership development.
• Contributes to strength and conditioning program, including one-on-one strength and conditioning work with student athletes.
• Provides support and encouragement to student athletes.
• Recruits and retains talented athletes; builds relationships with prospective student athletes and their families through email, phone, and one-on-one meetings.
• Understands NCAA and North Atlantic Conference (NAC) rules, compliance, and laws.
• Ensures the safety and well-being of student athletes.
• Serves as an effective role model for college-age students.
• Assists with day-to-day operations of the basketball program.
• Provides effective communication to head coach.
• Collaborates effectively with other Department of Athletics’ team members.
• Attends and participates in department trainings pertaining to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Required Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Ability to pass the NCAA rules exam prior to the start of the season
• Experience with the skills of basketball
• Valid driver’s license (in good standing, based on UMS standards)
• Availability for afternoon, evening, and weekend practices and competitions

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree
• Collegiate competitive experience/coaching
• Sports recruiting experience
• CPR/First Aid Certification
