Transylvania University invites applications for the part-time position of Assistant Men’s Golf Coach. Transylvania, founded in 1780, is the nation’s 16th oldest institution of higher learning and is consistently ranked in national publications as one of the top liberal arts colleges in the country. Transylvania is located in beautiful downtown Lexington, KY, in central Kentucky. Transylvania is a proud member of NCAA Division III. The Transylvania Golf team’s home course is the University Club of Kentucky. The Pioneers hosted the NCAA Division III National Championship at Keene Trace Golf Club, the home of the PGA Tour’s Barbasol Championship, in 2019 and 2023. Transylvania was the NCAA Division III Golf runner-up in 2012 and 2103.
Responsibilities include assisting with the organizing and directing all aspects of a successful and competitive collegiate program. The recruitment of qualified student-athletes is a major priority for this position. Qualified candidates must also show a strong commitment to their personal, athletic, and academic success. Responsibilities may also include recruiting, travel management, scheduling, player development, and budget management. This is a part-time appointment that allows for the opportunity to compete for a national championship.
Candidates must have a bachelor's degree and have collegiate playing experience. Candidates applying should have a career goal of collegiate golf coaching. Also, candidates should have an athletics philosophy compatible with a Division III liberal arts college with highly selective academic standards.
Candidates must be able to drive/fly to exotic locations such as Savannah, Hilton Head Island, Jekyll Island and Terre Haute, Indiana (twice) . Candidates must also be able to travel to Las Vegas for the 2024 NCAA men’s golf championship if Transylvania earns a berth by winning the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference for the 16th time in the past 17 years. Transylvania has the most conference titles in NCAA Division I, II or III men’s golf during the last 16 years. Past assistants have gone on to coach collegiate golf at Auburn (associate head & GCAA National Assistant Golf Coach of the Year), Kentucky (assistant), Louisville (assistant), Morehead State (current head), Eastern Kentucky (current head) and several NCAA Division III schools.
