Primary Responsibilities
St. Lawrence University is now accepting applications for a men’s and women’s assistant alpine ski coach. The assistant coach will provide instruction on-site and on training and practice and event locations. Apply knowledge and skills while assisting with the operations of the St. Lawrence University department of athletics and the ski teams. **This is a 6-month, seasonal, position primarily October – March timing.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:**
Provide elite on-site coaching in races and practices, including organization and implementation of daily practices
Ability to provide instruction in the SSES Department Minor
Provide support to student athletes competing at the upper level of collegiate skiing.
Communicate strategies to develop a race-ready mindset
Prepare film breakdown and analysis, and present analysis to team members
Plan and assist in preparing for practices and races.
Build relationships with prospective student athletes and their families through email, phone and one-on-one meetings
Understand NCAA rules, compliance, and laws
Ensure safety and well-being of student athletes
Serve as an effective role model for college-age students
Assist with day-to-day operations of the alpine ski program
Provide effective communication to head coach
Collaborate effectively with other Department of Athletics’ team members
Assist with the coordination of team travel
Attend and participate in department trainings pertaining to diversity, equity and inclusion
Teaching, game management, office assignments, and related may be assigned
Key Relationships: This position has significant interaction with high school and college student athletes and their families, as well as coaches and administrators.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
Operates on snow, mountains, grass, turf, courts, gymnasium, and training rooms.
Classroom and Independent Instruction settings
General open office and campus environment.
Position involves both sitting, movement, and occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
Frequent travel and early morning/evening/weekend work is required
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required.
Must have ability to teach various subject matter in the SSES Minor
Previous experience coaching and or/competing at the collegiate level is highly desirable
Committed to the values of a liberal arts education
Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering a quality student-athlete experience.
Must be organized, take initiative, and utilize strong time management skills
Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
Valid driver’s license required and must meet the University’s Driver Policy requirements
Ability to travel for team practices, competition, and scouting in and out of state
Strong positive communication and interpersonal skills with all levels
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to excel as a member of a diverse community
Preferred Qualifications
National/Academy team, or the equivalent of elite level of experience preferred.
Salary
$30,203 - $31,177
