Head Men's & Women's Track Coach

Position Summary:
As an Assistant Coach for NJIT's intercollegiate Men's & Women’s Cross Country Track & Field team, this function finds the incumbent responsible for assisting the Head Coach in the proper and overall management of the Men’s & Women’s Cross Country/Track & Field program. Emphasis on training and coaching cross country runners and distance events.

Essential Functions:
To accomplish this role, responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
1. Coaching Activities: This function finds its incumbent providing a full array of services related to the Cross Country/Track & Field Program. By way of illustration and not limitation, this function:
- Coaching emphasis on distance
- Organize, prepare, and conduct individual, group and team practices and training for the cross country and distance runners
- Leads, monitors and coordinates training and practice sessions for the distance runners, ensuring that all appropriate safety guidelines and standards are maintained
- Collaborates with the strength & conditioning staff and communicates with athletic training support staff to ensure the proper development, health and safety of the distance runners
- Assists in the identification and recruitment of prospective student-athletes for the intercollegiate Men's & Women’s Cross Country/Track & Field program, in accordance with NCAA rules, regulations, guidelines and standards with an emphasis on distance/cross country
- Assists in scheduling the intercollegiate Cross Country/Track & Field competitions
- Assists with the planning, preparation and conducting of home cross country competitions
- Fundraises, as needed in coordination with University Advancement, to supplement additional monies for the program
- Assist with the planning and preparation for competitions and team travel including itineraries, meals, lodging, transportation, entries and entry fees
- Assist with tasks related to compliance including entering countable hours for distance runners, managing competition logs, and assisting with roster management
- Assist the head coach with academic support by reviewing progress reports and assisting the athletic academic advising team with study hall hours and scheduling
- Assist with managing equipment and apparel inventory and orders as needed, including creating purchase orders for equipment and booking orders for shoes and apparel
- Assist with community engagement through planning organizing community service opportunities
- Drive university vans to off-campus practice locations as needed
- Provides assistance in the coordination and administration of the program as required

1. NCAA Compliance: Knowledge of and adherence to all applicable NCAA rules, regulations, bylaws, constitutions and related university rules, regulations and policies.

2. Maintain current health care certifications. (First aid, CPR/AED).

3. Performs other duties as assigned.

Prerequisite Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s Degree is required.
- Minimum of 3 years of collegiate coaching experience with a specialty in distance, mid distance, and cross country.
- Strong interpersonal, communication skills and the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff and students required.
- Must possess the ability to foster a cooperative environment.
- Must have knowledge of NCAA student-athlete academic eligibility requirements and recruiting rules.
- Must have the ability to understand, follow and enforce safety procedures.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- AED/CPR and First-aid certified.
- At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be accepted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
