General Information:
James Madison University Athletics, a Division I member of the NCAA and SunBelt, is seeking an Assistant or Associate Athletic Director for Business and Finance. This job will be filled at either the Associate or Assistant AD level, depending on the successful candidate's experience, knowledge, and competencies. The preferred qualifications at the Assistant Athletic Director level will have at least five years of management and oversight of Athletics Business and Financial operations, a proven track record of managing collaborative relationships, the ability to use a database to maintain and review multiple budgets and reports. The preferred qualifications at the Associate level will have at least seven years of Athletics Business and Financial operations with supervisory experience, a consistent, demonstrated track record of managing high-level relationships towards organizational goals, the ability to use a database to maintain and review multiple budgets and reports, and proven experience in managing and developing financial strategies for 18 Division I programs.
This position is full-time and includes a comprehensive benefits package.
Duties and Responsibilities:
-Manage $50 million in state funding for the Athletic Department in order to ensure efficient planning, operations, allocations, accounting and reporting of funds and resources. Ensure all 46 operating budgets and compensation budget are reviewed monthly with a focus on year-end impact and assist Coaches and support areas in monitoring and managing their individual budgets. and year-end reporting.
-Manage $5 million in Foundation funding for the Athletic Department in order to ensure efficient planning, operations, allocations, accounting and reporting of funds and resources. Ensure 50+ Foundation funds are reviewed monthly with a focus on year-end impact and year-end reporting.
-Provide supervision and guidance to business manager and 9 full-time administrative assistants within the Athletic Department.
-Coordinate the Athletic Departments IT needs with the Athletic IT Coordinator to ensure technological needs are being met and evaluation of new technology.
-Acts as the Athletics Department’s fiscal liaison to the University’s offices of Budget Management, Finance, UBO, Financial Reporting, Accounts Payable, Cash and Investments, and other University Offices.
-Develops and facilitates Athletics Financial Procedures that are in compliance with University and NCAA guidelines.
Qualifications:
Assistant AD for Business and Finance
Years of Experience:
• At least five years of relevant financial experience is preferred.
• 5 years’ experience in leadership of budget, treasury, financial operations, and/or financial reporting, especially in a Division I Athletics is preferred.
• Proven experience with leading competing priorities in a high-visibility office.
• Proven experience working with diverse stakeholders across campus.
• Proven critical thinking and problem-solving abilities are required.
• Strong verbal and written communication and presentation and reporting skills are required.
• Ability to build relationships and develop internal and external partnerships is required.
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams) is required.
• Knowledge of continuous improvement processes are preferred.
• CMA, CFA, CTP, CPA, or other relevant certifications are a plus.
*Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
Associate AD for Business and Finance
Years of Experience:
• At least seven years of experience in a financial discipline, with supervisory experience is preferred. 11 years of relevant/finance experience is preferred.
• 10 years’ experience in leadership of budget, financial operations, and/or financial reporting, especially in Division I Athletics is preferred.
• Proven experience with leading competing priorities in a high-visibility office.
• Proven experience working with diverse stakeholders across campus.
• Proven critical thinking and problem-solving abilities are required.
• Strong verbal and written communication and presentation and reporting skills are required.
• Ability to build relationships and develop internal and external partnerships is required.
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams) is required. Expert knowledge of Excel required.
• Knowledge and implementation of continuous improvement processes are required.
• CMA, CFA, CTP, CPA, or other relevant certifications is required

Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
