Essential Functions

Assistant Sports Performance Coach

Job Summary

Function: Assist coaches in all aspects of annual strength and conditioning programs for football. Provide professional knowledge, technical expertise, and supervisory skills to oversee all aspects of the strength and conditioning programs designated by immediate supervisor.

Scope: Responsible for the design, implementation, and supervision of yearlong strength and conditioning programs designated by the immediate supervisor.

Core Responsibilities

1. Assists in all aspects of assigned athletic programs.
2. Designs, implements and supervises the yearlong strength and conditioning programs designated by the immediate supervisor.
3. Aids in the supervision of the athletic weight room.
4. Aids in supervising Graduate Assistants, Interns, and Work Study Students.
5. Aids in cleanliness and upkeep of athletic weight room and equipment.
6. Travels with designated sports teams or teams when in-season.
7. Communicates with sports medicine staff daily.
8. Communicates with sports coaches or coaches daily.
9. Attends professional development opportunities as approved by a supervisor.
10. Performs other duties as assigned.

Associate Sports Performance Coach

Job Summary

Function: Assists in all aspects of complex strength and conditioning programs for football. Provides professional knowledge, technical expertise, and supervisory skills to oversee all aspects of the strength and conditioning programs designated by the immediate supervisor.

Scope: Responsible for designing, implementing, and supervising yearlong strength and conditioning programs designated by immediate supervisor.

Core Responsibilities

1. Assists in all aspects of assigned athletic programs.
2. Serves as the second in command of the Strength and Conditioning department.
3. Designs, implements and supervises the yearlong strength and conditioning programs designated by the immediate supervisor.
4. Aids in the supervision of the athletic weight room and staff.
5. Assumes role as internship coordinator (interview and hire interns each semester) as well as work-study coordinator.
6. Aids in internship development program.
7. Assists in oversight of annual budget in conjunction with supervisor.
8. Coordinates weight room schedule with sports coach's practice times and student-athlete academic schedules.
9. Aids in cleanliness and upkeep of athletic weight room and equipment.
10. Travels with designated sports teams or teams when in-season.
11. Communicates with sports medicine staff daily.
12. Communicates with sports coaches or coaches daily.
13. Attends professional development opportunities as approved by supervisor.
14. Aids in search for new strength and conditioning staff members.
15. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Assistant Sports Performance Coach

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a related field of study.
• Three (3) years of experience working at a college/university or with elite-level athletes. A Collegiate Division 1 Professional Internship may be substituted for one (1) year of experience.
• CPR and Basic First Aid certification.
• USAW, CSCS, or SCCC Certification.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Associate Sports Performance Coach

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a related field of study.
• Three (3) years or more years of experience working at a college/university or with elite level athletes.
• CPR and Basic First Aid certification.
• CSCS or SCCC Certification.
• USAW certification substitutes for one year of experience.
• Demonstrated independent decision-making and problem-solving ability.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Assistant Sports Performance Coach

• Master’s degree from an accredited institution in a related field of study.
• Knowledge of Sports Performance Data Tracking Systems.

Associate Sports Performance Coach

• Three or more (3+) years of experience working specifically with collegiate/professional football athletes.

Additional Information

• UTSA is a tobacco free campus.
• This is a security sensitive position. Employment is contingent upon a successful background check.
• Applicants selected must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States by time of hire.
• Valid driver’s license and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) as applicable.

Working Conditions

• Ten-to-fourteen-hour days on the floor coaching, on the field coaching, and in the office.
• Weekend, holiday, and summer hours are required.

• Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear.
• Ability to push, pull, or lift with or without reasonable accommodations.

This position will be primarily located on campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee’s responsibility.
